Is Burnt Food Unhealthy?
Ever since I was young, I’ve been told that eating too much burnt food might cause cancer later on. (To be honest, I don’t know if this is true or not, but what I know for sure is that it won’t do your body any good). So even if my food was only slightly burned, I always either scraped or cut off the burnt parts. But whenever I do this, a lot of my friends usually have the same reaction; they tell me stuff like, “You’re being way too obsessive,” “eating just a little bit of the burnt parts won’t kill you,” or “I think that ‘burnt taste’ is the best part.”
Well, I get their point. But if you add up all of the pieces of burnt food you’ve been consuming, it’s probably more than you think. Or…like my friends said, maybe I am just WAY too obsessive!
Do you tend to be more like me, or does burnt food not bother you as much? Have you ever heard that burnt food is unhealthy?

...Kogepan XD
Some things, I prefer pretty burnt. I like my Steaks done Chicago Blue, rarer than rare on the inside, charred on the outside. I also like my Pizza "well done"; which is nicely browned.
doesnt bother me actually haha
I love love love love love burnt cheese. If it's harmful, that's sad.
Burnt food is gross. I bet it is unhealthy.
I can't stand burnt food. I don't care if it's healthy or not, I won't be eating any.
I am pretty sure it is carcinogenic burnt food is not meant to be eaten. Eating occasionally would not be a problem though.
I dont think it is too bad for you. I've always been told it's good for when you have diarhea...but thats just what I hear, never tested it out.
I think the part about burnt food causing cancer is urban legend. I took 5 years of nursing courses and read several thick booths on pathophysiology and disease and burnt food was never mentioned. I think you'd be better served by avoiding traces of cigarette than worrying about overdone toast.
i try not to eat it ):
i love burnt food
especially burnt bbq wings
& yes I know its bad :( - but its so yummy
lol, my mom tells me the same: "You'll get cancer if you eat burnt bread or chicken."
It tastes bad anyway, so I always tear or cut the burnt parts off of my food too. (=
I have never heard of it being unhealthy but it is gross. I don't like the taste of it, if it's burnt I remove the burnt part but if it still tastes burnt I can't eat it.
My mom likes burnt popcorn though, eww!
My grandma tells me that eating burnt food will make my scars darker. But I think she tells me that so she can eat all of the burnt food for herself. Personally, I only like the burnt part for certain foods.
In cancer research they feed rats burnt something or other, can't remember whats it's called.
Apparently it does cause cancer (but so did carrots once upon a time). I tend to not eat the burnt part simply because I don't like but I cannot bother to be so obsessive over the current cancer research (you know except for smoking causing cancer) because they tend to find very absurd things to blame cancer on.
I love burnt toast. I don't intentionally try and burn it though, if it doesn't burn that's awesome but if it does I'm not going to throw it out just because it's burnt =p
I just don't like the burnt taste.
Two things I noticed, though:
1. all of your articles are the same length o__o
and 2. If you read the article and only half pay attention to the toast, the toast looks like it's getting larger.
@Ulma@xanga - See, the problem with those studies is the fact that nearly all rats develop cancer. I believe 76% of unneutered males and 84% of unspayed females develop cancer in their lifetime. May not be exact but very close, and you get my point? Asprin also develops cancer in rats.
@whitetrashpoet@xanga - yeah, I was trying to point it out subtly by you know mentioning carrots etc. But, WOW I didn't know it was that common for rats (rodents in general probably) to develop cancer!
I love burnt food.
Especially toast.
I also like grilled meat and veggies to be quite charred.
Yum.
combustion reactions form radicals --> oxidative damage.
i'm like you haha. just don't really like the taste of burnt food anyway. :/
I don't like burnt food, so I try not to eat burned parts of things. When I was little, probably around 4 or 5, I found a burned fry and made my mom eat it. I still make my mom eat any burned fries I find in my food.
ive heard it but idc. BURNT POPCORN IS THE SHIT! n so is a lot of other things. just enjoy life. who cares.
haha i do actually like burnt food. chicken wings, steak, and other stuff tastes good
I'm a nutrition major and we've talked about this so many times in my classes. Burnt food is a carcinogen because it carbonizes. BBQs and smoked meats and veggies are also bad because the vapors released are carcinogens. However, eating the occasional burnt food is not going to give you cancer, you'd have to eat a ton of it or eat it everyday. Just try not to eat burnt food and limit BBQs and eating smoked meats (or veggies), and you'll be fine. Carcinogens are hard to avoid, if you live in the city, you can bet you breathe in some sort-of carcinogen every day.
