Would Musical Stairs Make You Skip the Escalator?
In Stockholm, a group of people got together and turned a set of stairs into a piano!
What's interesting about this is that the stairs were right next to an escalator, and the escalator saw more foot traffic than the stairs did on any given day.
But did the piano stairs change people's opinions about taking the escalator? Check out the video!
Do you think that people would be more likely to take the stairs (over an escalator or elevator) if it was more fun? Could people introduce fun into everyday activities like this in order to burn a few more calories?

omg i wouldn't get off those stairs.
That's cool! But it's sad that we have to bribe people to take the stairs!
That would totally make me choose stairs over escalator... and I'll usually take the escalator, lol.
Aw, that's so cute. I would totally take the stairs...and then walk back down and take the escalator.
definitely =D
hah that is so cool. I'd definitely use them instead. :)
@salvatruca_stalking_havok13@xanga - LMAO
It would make me avoid the stairs and i'd be annoyed as hell by all the people taking the stairs making a bunch of out of tune noise.
I'd avoid them at all cost durring rush hour! I'd get up really early and just play on them for hours, though. :]
This was post somewhere already. I don't know if this is the same poster or if it's just a copycat.
@Charity_the_So_Called_Artist@xanga - that is not bribing. they were merely testing out a new idea, not doing your so called 'bribing'
I'd get a group of friends together and play a tune together!
Yep.
@BunnyParfait@xanga - my daughter would be playing songs! I'd be wishing I could climb stairs.
That's awesome! I'd be one of the people playing songs on it, too.
If there's a stairway right beside it, I skip the escalator normally, anyway.
oh my god, that is so fucking awesome!!
I love this idea!!!!
Yeah I'd take them more often too.
soo cool! :)
i want that in my house!!
thats amazing:)
Lol, everyone likes to play and it's the easiest way to get people to exercise. It's the thought behind the Wii Nintendo.
However, I think while it is interesting and could work, it would work only for a little while on the majority of people. I'd use the stairs there once, just to do it for myself and giggle at my own silliness and at he novelty of the stairs. But, then I would probably just use the escalator from then on after that one time, and giggle at the people who were using the stairs.
However, if I had a choice of a down escalator or the stairs, I'd probably choose the stairs if the escalator was a very high one. I'm terrified of heights and it's easy to go UP an escalator, instead of down. And for that the stairs would NOT need to be made into a piano. :p
However, when it comes to an elevator, even a clear elevator (since it's enclosed and while I can see everything, I feel secure knowing I can't lean over and fall out or be pushed off or lose my balance otherwise), I would still try the stairs once. Then I'd use the elevator both ways every time.
Novelties like that are amusing, but only at first. At least for me.
How many days did this experiment go on and how many people within that period repeated using the stays? Not just 20 times in one day, but say over a 60 day period, did everyone who chose the stairs continue choosing the stairs? That's what I would think would measure real probability, is whether the people who did it thought it was a novelty that was fun to try for a while but then got boring, or whether they thought it was cool enough to do every time or just about every time they went there.
The video is cute, though. :)
I would NEVER get on those stairs if I knew they made noise. I hate making noise =/
This is awesome! I hate escalators anyway and I can't believe so many people would rather get on them than walk up stairs...especially when walking up the stairs is healthier for you and it's really easy...it's not like it's actually asking anyone to exercise...just walk.
that is seriously the coolest thing! LOL how creative.
