Just Let Me Sleep!
I consider myself a sound sleeper. When it comes to sleeping, almost nothing bothers me. Even if my roommate is chatting on the phone, leaves all the lights on when she’s on the computer making all that typing noise, or watching TV, nothing wakes me up. So, sleeping was never an issue for me until now.
I don’t have a problem falling asleep, in fact, I go to bed pretty early--around 10 p.m.--and fall asleep just fine, but recently I’ve been waking up around 2 or 3 a.m. every single night. At first, I thought maybe I was going to bed too early and tried to wait till around 11 p.m. to go to sleep, but since my body already seems so used to shutting its system off around 10 p.m., I’ve been having a hard time keeping my eyes open past that time. Even if I go to bed early, I still usually wake up in the middle of the night. It usually takes about 15 minutes or so for me to get back to sleep, which I don’t think is a long time at all, but that 15-minute break is totally disturbing my 7-hour sleep cycle! So, I’ve been feeling really sluggish and tired in the morning, and I don’t know what I can do to get back to my “sound-sleep – cycle.”
Has this ever happened to you before? Do you know of any strategies that helped you, or that you have heard about? I need help!

pfffffft
If anything in your life has changed, like stress that could attribute to it same with medicine. Drink a cup of hot tea before you go to bed, it works for me, my friend gets the soothing kind at Big Lots/Odd Lots pretty cheap, but if you go for plain black tea with sugar it works too :) hope that helps!
This happens to me from time to time except instead of 15 minute breaks it's more like an hour or two which really fucks me up. It tends to go away once I start school though; so, I guess stress or keeping busy helps me out? I'm really not sure, but it sucks.
i've got no problem sleeping as well. i have a problem in staying up...
this happens to me all the time.. altho i have a 3 year old who doesnt like to sleep, so i am up 2 or 3 times a night with him. lol. but i understand feeling sluggish when your sleep cycle is disturbed.
Ha, I wish that was my complaint. I can't even fall asleep until 3!
melatonin!
try sleepy time tea that should keep u asleep hopefully. goodluck!!!! hopefully it doesnt last to long. i hate intterupted sleep.
it is more common in spring and fall i think. Any digestive problems? Any bronchial/ coughing going on? could be related.
Melatonin was a lifesaver for me when I was in college. My insomnia was totally from situational stress, so I didn't mind using a supplement to "cure" it for a time. If you think the issue is something more permanent you should address the cause. If it's a short term problem try the melatonin.
A certain type of magnets really helped for my husband and I. We sleep in a Sleep System made by a Japanese health care company called Nikken. I never slept an entire night in my life ever until we got this system. I would fall asleep, but then wake up for hours at a time during the night. My hubby has sleep apnea, and this magnetic sleep system has worked for him too. I gotta tell you life is a lot more calm around our house now that we are both getting enough quality shut eye every night. Try it. You can check this out at www.RicherLivingNow.com
Good luck! You need to sleep, it's very important for health.
I usually wake up for a few minutes throughout the night. Maybe 3 times or so..but it doesn't really do anything to make me feel tired when I wake up for good. As long as I fall back asleep within..Probably a half hour, I'll be fine in the morning.
Take a melatonin supplement before bed.
nyquil really does the trick when in having an RLS fit in the night, but the mornings feel more hung over than if i were out all night drinking... DAmn you. The only other thing that makes me sleep is if i get out of bed, drive ten minutes to the gym, run for 30. Good luck, if you find anything spectacular please let me know.
Don't worry too much on the cycle. Your 7 hours cycle is in fact actually two 3 and a 1/2 hour cycle. So technically you are just waking up in between cycles. Other than that, I guess exercise would help, help blood circulate around your body. : )
i'm a pretty light sleeper so i wait until my roommates are asleep or about ready just so i don't have any distractions going to bed. they are heavy sleepers so they don't have a problem if i have the light on or if i'm on the computer. but i do tend to wake up in the middle of the nights for potty breaks or just for the hell of it (probably because i keep thinking that i'm going to miss class) but i just put my headphones back on and i eventually fall back asleep. or i take a swig of water and i go back to sleep. it works for me :)
the same thing has been happening to me for about the past 3 years or so. it's remarkable that you can already get back to sleep so quickly, i had to learn that, so for months i'd sleep maybe 45 minutes and then wake up and take another couple hours to get to sleep again. eventually, your body will readjust, unless there's a specific reason your waking up (is someone making noise regularly or are you drinking a lot of fluids before bed? are you stressed? - i wake up more often if i'm stressed out or have been thinking a tremendous amount before bed) you could also compensate by taking naps. anyways, good luck, i think it's probably just a phase and you'll get through it.
omg this happened to me last year. but it was a little bit different than u. I am deff heavy sound sleeper nothing will wake me up. but the problem with me was for like a couple weeks this year i just could not fall alseep before 5 sometimes 5:30am the latest. like my eyes would feel heavy but i would jus lay in bed and not be able to fall asleep.
it was really wierd.
I have remedy in my blog, just enter into

and find the article called "How To Get A Good Night Sleep"
tire yourself out right before... that solved it for me whenever this has happened in the past.
This sounds really dumb, but I went on my zune program and downloaded this podcast of hypnosis and this guy hypnotized me to sleep. I get random bouts of insomnia (I'm a 10:30 sleeper) but when I listen to this podcast during those times, I literally have the best sleep I've had in weeks. :) very relaxing.
if all else fails, you may be cold while u sleep or something. I've begun drinking a lot of water (64+ oz a day) so I wake up at 3am to go every night.was that TMI?I Have Insomnia, Sorry.
