Everybody Needs to Hope That This Swine Epidemic Subsides...
After supper on Monday night, my mom, dad, and I were talking about how it was early for this flu season, that's what allegedly worried some of the World Health Organization (WHO). My little sister had a band concert at the parade of bands last Friday, and my dad said that his reason for leaving after her performance was because the Swine thrives in crowds, and most people there were coughing and sneezing. Well, I want to return to school more than most things right now, and if my dad is right, it'll be really scary to go back to a communal place each day, even if the point of it all is to procure a better life someday!
In one of my past Philosophy classes, I was taught that back in 1918 we were more prepared for the Influenza Pandemic even though it killed millions, just because everyone could isolate themselves better. However, in the present day, we are too dependent on others, so could we stay in our own houses?
I wonder what everyone's experiences with Swine flu are, and how you deal with it. How do you quarantine yourself from those infected?
Are you tired of hearing about the Swine flu? Do you think it's as big of a deal as everyone makes it?

I am tired of hearing about the stupid swine flu. It doesn't kill near as many as the regular flu has. Give me a break
I'm really tired of it. Now doctors are diagnosing people just by looking at them, which I'm sure is causing a major over-diagnosis. It's not even that much worse than a normal flu; I don't get what the big deal is.
And my favorite website.
@Ex_Adyto_Cordis@xanga - yep.
I, and pretty much everyone I know, have had swine flu. We stayed in and watched t.v.
I started developing pneumonia because a)it was rainy for about a week straight and I was job hunting, b)I have asthma, and c)I didn't realize how sick I was until I'd had flu symptoms for 2 weeks. I went to my doctor, got some medicine, and stayed home when I could.
The people that are dying are the same demographic that are at risk of dying for the regular flu. I've known someone to die from it. She was in such bad health beforehand that she had to be hospitalized pretty much any time she got a cold. People cough and sneeze. It's fall. It could be h1n1; but it could also be hay fever, a cold, the regular flu, a dry throat and nose from being out in the cold, a smokers cough. My neighbor had h1n1 and still went to class and work every day. She just get close to anyone, and her boss had her on a different duty than usual so she wouldn't deal directly with customers.
Unless you have some sort of immunity issue or are in bad health already, I wouldn't panic. If you do happen to get sick enough to need to go to the hospital, then go to the hospital. Most people I know have been perfectly fine sitting at home being lazy and just being sick.
YES. It's big. I go to UMD, I'm scared as heck. UMD keeps announcing possible cases of swine flu.
@RoastedMarshmallow@xanga - I go to UMD as well, but I haven't heard much about it lately and don't really think that it will be serious at all. I'm also living off campus, though, so it may be more of a concern in the dorms.
I'm pretty to myself, I don't rely on others. I hardly ever make contact with anyone lately.
I think acknowledging the H1N1 flu is necessary because I just know that if it got worse without the public being informed about the disease, people would be angry they weren't warned beforehand. Better safe and annoyed than sorry.
That being said, the media should shut the fuck up already. Instead of informing people and providing tips, they just like causing a panic. Not very helpful.
@salvatruca_stalking_havok13@xanga - I agree with you. If it wasnt reported then peopl would accuse the government of withholding information. I dont think it's talked about too much though. I'd rather them tell me where the cases are so I can avoid exposure.
I think it is over rated. I also think we are less reliant on others now then our ancestors of 1918. I mean... we can order groceries and have them delivered to our homes from our computer, you can do everything you need to online and we can call people if we need someone to talk too. Plus our hygiene is much better. Our ancestors had poor hygiene, had to go out to get food, and were an all around communal society. I think someone should have argued your instructor.
I'm tired of hearing about it though, what about all the kids dying of hunger and them not getting any news, children fighting wars and no one doing anything, people dying from diseases that the west has been able to eradicate but not helping others out with. Swine flu is BS.
The swine flu is a big deal for the CDC, not the average american.
The news media is just hyping it because it's there.
@agnophilo@xanga - thank youuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!
I am very tired of hearing about it. As a pediatric ER nurse I see at least a dozen kids a day with flu like symptoms, many of whom do have H1N1. Unless they have seriously compromised immune systems (think cancer, transplants, and extreme asthma) we send them home and they're fine. I actually had it in September (occupational hazard) and while it sucked and stuck around for a long time, I only had one day where I slept most of the time. I did it without Tamiflu, even though I have asthma. There is really no need to panic.
If people would just stay home when they're ill and wash their hands, this would fall under the radar so quickly.
@RoastedMarshmallow@xanga - my sister goes there
@agnophilo@xanga - with all my heart i hope you're right
@Ex_Adyto_Cordis@xanga - The media loves nothing more than scaring people into chaos, and a new strain of flu is just the kind of thing they use to do it.
OMG SWINE FLU KILLS 1% OF THOSE WHO GET IT WE ARE ALL GONNA DIE>..... HALP PLEAES OMGZ !1!1!1!1!1!
i'm so tired of hearing about this. i feel like this is just like the SARS pandemic. at least from here in Canada.
I'm ready for a new pandemic, bring it on.
@Ex_Adyto_Cordis@xanga - Mhm.
@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - o noezzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!111111!!!!
I am SO SICK of hearing about the swine flu. Â I'm considering hermitage, not so I avoid getting it but so I don't have to hear about it.
@EndofGrace@xanga - be careful saying that
@theworldiswatchingyou@xanga - I know. Really, people do need to stay home when they are sick; swallow your pride or something people.
