I Have Heat Rash - Help!
source
Hey Healthkickers! We received this post from morbidcoronerchick@Xanga.
Can we help her?Currently, I have a case of heat rash on the right side of my neck. It starts towards the base of my neck and spreads to just before my jaw in a strange, upside down triangular shape. Because I have dark complexion, you can't notice it unless you touch the spot or are really close to me (yay!).
The strange thing is, it's early November and I live in Wisconsin, where it's not hot anymore. It's only hot if you're talking about May-September - and even then the weather varies!
Anyway, does anyone have any remedies for it? Is it stress related? (This is my third case of heat rash since my dad died in August.) Are there any ways to prevent it?

Pricky heat powder may help & cool clothes. Are you dressing too warm? That can irritate the skin too. I'm afraid you may have to wait it out but it doesnt last long. I used to get it like crazy when I first moved to this tropical environment but I learned to stay in the air conditioning, wear cotton clothing & keep my hair off my skin when I'm outside.
I had it on my arms during the summer, and it lasted for a few months. I don't know if stress is a factor, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was. I used a hydrocortisone cream (hydrocortisone butyrate cream 0.1%) and it went away. But I think the factor that helped treat it was the change in weather.
maybe you had on a scarf and it was too hot? I got heat rash once when I was living in CT for the summer. I thought I was having an allergic reaction to my sunscreen or something.
It's possible that it's stress related, but then it wouldn't technically be heat rash. I get it almost every summer, and Aveno lotion helps a lot. Also the pharmacist recommended aveno oatmeal baths. I stopped that in jr. high, but it did help. Although since it's on your neck i don't know how much good it would do. But oatmeal has some kind of enzyme or vitamin that soothes rashes and stuff, so you could just get some and paste it on there in the evening before taking a shower?
@Shinbi_Belldandy@xanga - I don't think so. I usually don't wear anything on my neck unless it's the middle of winter.
@Katherine_the_third@xanga - No scarf whatsoever. I usually only wear one in winter.
@alexa_rae - Thanks
@lovezpassion@xanga - Thank you as well
Have you tried just sweating it out?
I'd get heat rashes all the time and it would give me a unbearable itchy feeling right up until i broke into a sweat.
Then a couple times a week I would just sweat it out in the form of some exercise, be it biking or running.
This consistent routine has made heat rashes all but a memory now. I have no actual scientific proof other than personal experience. but I'd get heat rashes in the winter if I exerted myself and caused my body temperature to rise. If you have what I have it might solve your problem.
I have a feeling it isn't just heat rash. You said the outbreaks have increased since you lost your Dad. I have a feeling it is stress related. I think I'd have a dermatologist look at it and follow their recommendations. You don't want it to become chronic, or turn into something worse. Almost looks like Ptoriasis Roseola in the picture.
are you sure it's heat rash and not a different rash? you only get heat rash from the heat, but you can get lots of other rashes for various reasons, including stress. see a doctor.
@Ork58@xanga - That's a thought.......
It's probably "atopic dermatitis" or eczema. Some hydrocortisone cream should help.
