A Bit Odd Thing I Noticed At The Gym.....
I don’t really know about other gyms, but I’ve noticed something weird about the people at the gym I go to. So my gym has four floors; the top floor being the lobby where you check-in, the third floor the locker rooms, the second floor the weight room, and then the bottom floor is where all the cardio machines are located.
When I hit the gym every morning, I walk down to the locker room and change into my gym clothes, then walk down to the bottom floor and do cardio first. Then, I walk two floors up and do some weightlifting. For me, I always take the stairs because I think it complements my “actual-workout” I’ve done (it’s actually pretty hard when you have to walk up and down the stairs several times, especially after my workout). But I’ve noticed that a lot of people at the gym tend to take the elevators more than the stairs. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, but I find it a bit strange that people wait for the elevator just to go one floor or three floors up or down at the most. I mean, I understand if you’re carrying a lot of bags or if there are just way too many stairs from one floor to the next, but none of the people I’ve seen so far were carrying huge bags and the stairs are pretty short. So I was thinking what’s the whole point of coming to the gym then?
Do a lot of people at your gym tend to take the elevators or the stairs? What about you?

We don't have elevators, but i'd take the stairs either way. And i do. But i can understand people taking the elevator cos i myself get rly dizzy during a workout.
hahaha... ok... well i dont go to the gym... and i'm .... 90% lazy....
at my school there are 6 floors. My studio work space is in level 2. Exhibition hall- 3... Printing-5
I actually see people wait for the elevators to go from 2 to 3... and if i walk from 2-5... most of the time i beat those people who take the elevators...
in a gym i would find that odd.. hehe.. maybe those people just wanna work out the amount of calories those machines tell them they are working off instead of truly working out..
Why does this even matter..
It depends. If I went to the gym I would probably go up and down until I was finished, then take an elevator. I honestly have a fear of stairs but I doubt that all of those folks at your gym do too.
The stairs. However some take the elevator but they do look physically drained!
I totally understand you in this point. I've noticed it before even at the gym at my school where it's only floor one and two. But there are people that would take the elevator!
SERIOUSLY PEOPLE???!
I don't understand why anyone would take elevators when at the gym, you're there to work out after all!
lol i'd take the elevator too. it's just one floor anyways. haha i don't think walking up the stairs is going to burn that many calories ;)
HA, lazy ass gym posers! :P
Heh, yeah that is a bit odd. You would think most people would take the stairs.
The gym I go to now (well technically it's a YMCA) is just one story. I used to go to a gym with 2 floors, but there was no elevator anyway.
the tennis & fitness club I work at doesn't even have elevators, so it's not a problem
@TofuPanda@xanga - go away then! ps team JACOB
i havent ever been to a gym where there is an elevator, however i notice people will circle the parking lot in their cars, over and over looking for the closest parking space, or having a cigarette right before they go in, or worse, mid work out.
@Peppermint__Kisses@xanga - okay, it's better than staying here with you retards. ;)
I live in a 19 story dorm building and I live on the 7th floor. You are stared down if you take the elevator if you live on 7 or below. So I take the stairs AT LEAST twice a day!
My gym has 2 floors, and I've never seen anyone take the elevator. Actually, at my orientation thing, they discouraged use of the elevator "There's the elevator way back in that corner for the people here for rehab or if you ever get dizzy after a workout..." haha, I'm afraid of the dirty looks I would get for taking the elevator.
my gym only has stairs. But when I used to train at a gym that had a small elevator, we mainly only took it on the days we worked our legs (b/c they felt like rubberbands already as it was).
It's kinda similar at my gym except with driving, because it's only 2 floors so doesn't have a lift. People seem to go there for their 'real' exercise and don't count the incidental exercise at all or think it's a waste of time. So even on really beautiful days the people who live on campus, which is literally 10 mins quick walk away, will drive to the gym, do a class, walk/jog on the treadmill for half an hour and then drive home. Why not jog to the gym do a class and jog home? *shakes head*
I don't go to the gym, but I usually take the stairs. I'll take the stairs anywhere especially if I feel like i'm running late. 99.9% of the time, stairs are faster.
We only have two floors everything is pretty much on the first floor the only thing on the second is the track and we don't have elevators.
That does seem contradictory. The rec center at my university is 4 floors, though the main, most used facilities are on the ground floor (cardio, weights) I think the only people I've seen use the elevator are employees when they're pushing around carts of equipment, or people in wheelchairs; that's pretty much it. Also, the elevators are kind of off to the side and not easily seen, I think to discourage people from using it if they don't really need it.
wow that's super lazy. yea the elevator should be primarily used by handicapped/disabled people or people transporting huge or heavy loads of stuff.
@LadyKnightEvilstrawberry@xanga - the only thing i can think of for that is that maybe they have problems running outside? like i have asthma and running in the outside air makes it really difficult to breath, but i'm fine on the treadmill, so i always drive to the gym...
@lil_fatty88@xanga - hmm true! I didn't think of that actually.. It woudn't be so for all of them, but definitely could be for some!
You should just ask them if it really concerns you (I don't want to come off rudely). We don't have this case at my gym. But I would assume that everyone has their own personal reasons. Some lack logic, some may get dizzy, some may be there to do a specific workout that doesn't involve stairs. Maybe some people injured their foot and go to the gym to work their upper body. The possibilities are endless.
