How Do I Get Rid of a Stye?
I woke up this morning run over to the sink to put my contacts in. While putting on the right one, I wondered if i punched myself in the face while sleeping. IT HURT! After being able to see clearly I see a little red bump in the corner part of my lower eye lid near my tear duct. A stye!
It is quite small to the pictures I have seen on the internet, but it is noticable. I've read the typical: tea bags, hot cloths, Neosporin. I even bought some over the counter things to relieve the itching and pain. But not only do I have a date tomorrow night, but I have switched back to wearing my glasses and I have a tough time driving at night with glasses... and not driving in not an option!
What are some suggestions to get rid of this stye fast and make sure it doesn't grow?

Ewww! That sucks!
I've never had a stye, luckily, but I'd head to the ER to see what they could possibly do if I had one.
@morbidcoronerchick@xanga - The ER would send you home! Styes aren't dangerous, just annoying.
@whitetrashpoet@xanga - Yeah, but don't they have something to treat styes with? Like a dissolvant or a needle they could pop the stye with?
I get styes all the time, sadly enough it has to do with an eye infection I had when I was younger.
My advice is a warm (CLEAN!!) washcloth. Leave it on for 30min, take a break, then put it back on until it goes away.
Works for me everytime =)
you can do a clean warm washcloth. Or, when I had a stye, I put a warm compress 2 to 3 times a day on it for 30 minutes. That's what my doctor said to do, and it was gone in about 5 days. No harm done.
@morbidcoronerchick@xanga - That would probably make it worse...a stye is an inflamed oil gland and it will drain on its own - popping it could give you an infection. I'd stick to hot compresses (will improve circulation and promote drainage/healing). If it doesn't go away for a few days the doc may prescribe an antibiotic or steriod cream, but it's important to not do that right away because overuse of antibiotics can cause resistance (so when you get a HUGE stubborn stye it won't be able to be fixed, you'll just have to wait it out!).
Yeah, what everybody else said. Warm compress.
There are OTCs you can get, but they won't HEAL it, just help with the itching & pain.
But, keep doing what you're doing. Don't wear your contacts, Don't wear any makeup, and most importantly-- don't touch it, you'll just irritate it.
It'll go away soon enough, but until then, they do suck, hardcore.
I agree with everyone else, hot compresses do the trick.
However, if you have something that seems like a stye that won't go away and doesn't have a head, it's probably a chalazion. Chalazions are bumps that occur because of blocked pathways in your eyelid can be in the upper or lower lids, and usually not on the edge of the lid. They go away on their own sometimes after hot compresses and massaging the area, but sometimes require surgery (I had two that required surgery). Just an FYI because people don't know about those unless they get them, and think they're styes initially.
My mom just got over one and the doctor told her warm compresses.
one of my co workers told me that steeping a black tea bag and than putting it over your closed eye will break it up and get rid of it...that was if you felt it starting to come in, but it might still work. I tried it and it got rid of mine =)
ummm... what are warm compresses? lol.
Make sure you don't wear makeup or try to pop it or anything! I got a stye once, and it got infected. My eyelid was completely swollen, and I had to take nasty antibiotics for weeks ):
microwave a wet towel so it'll be warm. keep it on your eye as much as you can til it goes away.
and it will.
@beautypeacekrissy@xanga - Well, a cold compress is like an ice pack or something of the sort. A warm compress is something like a heated towel. You can wet the towel and warm it up with hot water or put in the microwave for a few seconds.
I use to get styes all of the time as a child! My mom use to brew a cup of tea and then I would put the warm bag on my eye. Good luck, I know what a pain they are!
@whitetrashpoet@xanga - Yucky! Okay
put a quarter on it and talk to the sty (seriously) - tell it to follow the quarter wherever it goes and just woooo it away...make it believe it'll have a better home ;)
superstitious stuff but it works. gone within two days
take a small face towel and soak it in really really hot water, and then take the face towel and rub it back and forth on the lid and the stye and the stye should pop and the liquid should come out. it works all the time for my little sister. it's also recommended by doctors. there's really no medicine for a stye out in the market.
styes really suck, usually its worse if you pop it because it could infect your eye because a stye is a bacteria that gets trapped by not removing your make up or not removing your contacts and it best to just let it go away on its own, i really sucks but thats the best and healthy way to get rid of it, dont wear any make up and wear your glasses.
like everyone has been saying, hot compresses until one day it looks like a giant white head that can't get any bigger and then it pops-- then you have to clean out all the pus or else it'll come back.
if you keep getting them (and around the same area) you can usually just see a family practitioner and he or she will prescribe you some ointment that will get rid of it. over the counter stuff won't help with that. an opthamologist can help you pop it if it hasn't popped yet.
prob better to just do the hot compress stuff....but when i get them i rip them the hell off or drain them. it hurts and is probably stupid but i cant stand them.
so weird... but an "old wives tale" that my mom taught me that has ALWAYS worked.... rubbing a gold ring (make sure its clean) on it. the higher the karat of gold, the better. Rub it on there as much as you can, for minutes at a time. I SWEAR it goes away!!!
Sleep causes styes to go away...
Always work for me.
drink lemonade.................LOTS of HOMEMADE lemonade......and put a hot compress on it. Preferably with salt.
Yes it will sting. But will it go away?
Of course.
I think all you can do, is put a really hot washer rag over it. It'll bust when it's ready. I kept getting something similiar over the summer, but it was worse and it got really bad, so I went to the doctor and they gave me pills plus eye drops for it and it went away in two days.
They really do suck and they always come back, which sucks even more.
