Elizabeth Lambert: Is Rough Play in Sports Healthy?
I’ve seen some crazy things in my life, especially while playing both collegiate basketball and soccer…but nothing even compares to this! I know sometimes you’re so caught up in the moment and react before thinking, or in this case, before pulling an opponent to the ground by their HAIR!!
Elizabeth Lambert, a defender from the University of New Mexico, took it a little too far, and in my opinion deserves the suspension. I know that if she was a teammate of mine, I would have had a few words with her after the first punch to that girl’s back!
What are your thoughts? Is there a difference between healthy competitiveness and just plain rough play?

My teacher at school showed this to my class today! She's got some attitude issues.
if i was out on that field and she did that to me i would beat the crap out of her, she has some serious issues. She must have been seriously raggin!!

wow. does she have no sportsmanship at all? or respect for her opponents?
shame on the coach for not pulling her out for her attitude. shame on her for being a total bitch.
it's fun and good to play rough cause sports require edge/toughness, but it's not fun or good to play in a violent way in which you physically target your opponents to hurt them in a way that does not benefit your team.
What a sadistic bitch. Glad she was suspended. If anything, she should be kicked out for good!
A friend had that up on his Facebook and that even hurts to look at. New Mexico got ahead despite her foul play.

Jesus Christ. That's just wrong on so many levels. How has she even gotten away with that? I mean, I know some school encourage awful behavior like that, but still...-shakes head- I'm kinda surprised the NCAA hasn't said anything to her or the coaches yet.

There is a distinct difference between healthy competitiveness and rough play. Simply put, healthy competitiveness is aggressive play that is entirely within the rules established in the game. Rough play is directly outside of these rules.
Frankly..it's sort of a stupid question, but I'm glad it was on the front page so I could see that video. lol

I've played sports my whole life, and it does get a bit rough. Basketball and softball we always played rough, but we never beat the crap out of someone like that. When you're recognized as a college athlete I think you really should play at a level where you play with respect for other people. Ultimately it should be a privilege to play for your school, and for your bad behavior there should be a consequence, not just frowned upon. If she did get suspended, then good for the school, but I think this girl should get into a bit more trouble than sitting out a game or two.
I've played soccer since I was a kid, and the girl deff. deserved a red card. there's playing rough and then there is playing like that because if you have to do that in order to win? that's pathetic, and you have no buisness playing soccer. ridiculous all she got was a yellow card.

Yes, that's just excessive. I'm sorry, but yanking someone down by their hair like that was not necessary. I have to half say that I can't blame her too much for that punch to the one girl's back, because that girl surely knew that if she was going to elbow Elizabeth Lambert (since she's actually apparently known for these kinds of things) she was probably going to have a retaliation. However, I think she was definitely crowding that girl, not just guarding her, and she really didn't need to be that close. And I can't say that as a simple reaction to having someone so close to me they could be humping me I'd probably elbow that person too. So, I can't completely let Lambert off the hook for that one, either.
I think she deserved her suspension. She knew that if she got caught doing things like that, she'd probably be disciplined or even suspended. She just took a chance and did those things anyway.
Competitive sports definitely has a lot of rough, even questionable play, that needs to be expected whether you are male or female. However, there are rules, they are there for a reason, as a player you know those rules, and if you break the rules and get caught, you just have to take your lumps, whatever they may be.
I'm guessing she was suspended for breaking the rules in such a way that the school felt that she was representing them in a bad way. And...lol, she did. :p

But then again I've heard of some horror stories from my friends before. One in particular just made me catch my breath: my friend was running cross country and some of the other runners rammed into him and knock him down. One even went so far as to step on his ankle. He actually finished the race, second to last, on a sprained ankle.
I've played soccer for years... and I've only run into one player like that. That's too far, imo.

she's retarded. it's not professional to let her emotions get in the way of the game, which inevitably got her a one-way ticket to indefinate suspension. way to go.
