No, I think this ad is bang on. It shows the true impact that smoking can have.
I mean, everyone already knows/accepts that it can damage their own body, but when you bring in the pain on those close to you? It's truly more effective.
the ad wouldnt be so horrible if that wasnt his real mother and if the kid knew it was for an advertisement
NOT TOO FAR AT ALL. i',m only 16 have too many close friends my age who have lost their parents to cancer. i dont want to get into it. But there is nothing wrong with that ad.
I feel this post is missing some crucial information. The ad is controversial not for its content, but for how they went about obtaining that content. Basically, the child is crying for real since the filmmakers had him lose sight of his mother for a few seconds in a crowded subway station, to induce this response.
That being said, I still don't see what the big deal is. Kids are remarkably resilient, and 10 seconds missing mommy is unlikely to traumatize him.
Nope, I don't think so. Sometimes you gotta go hard to hit it hard so it can get through to others.
No. Its Right on.
nope, i think this is correct. so true.
I think it is great, it actually made me tear up a little. There shouldn't be a soft message about the dangers of smoking, and if people want to continue doing it, they will regardless of this clip. It is important for them to be warned though and stop thinking very selfishly that they are the only one affected by their smoking.
No I don't think so at all. As a mother, sometimes the only time to get through to us is showing us what will happen to our children, I hope this makes mothers who smoke think.
No I don't think so. It was horrible to do that to the kid but it gets the point across.
Dead on. Why the hell would people think that this as went too far?

nope! when u decide to drink and drive u decide subconsciously that you're ok with potentially dying and leaving ur fam since u know the risks. when u decide to do drugs,.. u decide that getting high is worth the risk of OD'ing and leaving ur fam. when u decide to smoke,.. u decide that its ok to live frivilously and risk getting sick and leaving ur fam alone.
No I think that this is a good ad. Some people make selfish decisions and never think of the well fair of the children and I am not yet a mother and I don't smoke, but seeing this it made me tear up a little. So just may be it will get through to someone.
No, I don't think it does.
@KrazeeKunoichi009@xanga - The main controversy arose from this commercial because people believed that the child was not actually acting and that he was really crying real tears of loss and fear because they willingly put him in a situation that scared him. It questioned whether they treated him properly, but apparently the campaign workers assured whoever it was (I can't remember) who was questioning it that this was done in one take, the mother was not far from the child, it was a short period of time (although for a child, it could feel like eons of being alone), and that it caused him no trauma.
nope, it's great.
this is really old.
actually i'm pretty damn sure that this was already posted about.
Heh, I remember this ad from last year.
Did you know that when they were making the commercial, they had to ditch the kid in real life to make him cry?
seriously people?? i've had nightmares about shit like that when i was little. not cool. most of you never have smoked im sure, both my parents do, i did and quit because i knew what was best for my health, and i believe this ad goes too far.
a lot ppl dont start smoking because they think it will be "fun", or because theyre irresponsible in general. i, along with many other smokers i know, started as a means to help cope with extreme stress caused by unfortunate circumstances and noble responsibilities. the message that this ad is sending is that if you're a parent, and you smoke, you're basically abandoning your children. my parents have both smoked as long as i've known them, and have ALWAYS stuck by me, supported me and made it possible for me to go to college and live my dreams.
its possible for anti smoking ads to inform us of the damage cigarettes do to our bodies WITHOUT shedding a negative (and almost insulting) light on the parenting skills of the many loving, devoted parents out there that happen to have a cigarette or two at the end of the day to take the edge off. its not a healthy form of stress relief, but it DOES NOT make them bad people.
This ad accomplishes absolutely nothing. People know that smoking kills but they could care less about their health. They won't think about when they die and how it impacts people. Not to mention the smokers who aren't parents.
Aw. This is pretty sad. I don't think it goes too far, but what this is only going towards one target market, parents. What about other target markets like teenagers, single people, and what not.
@pinkdagger@xanga - Still, it's just a commercial, once it was over the mother returned to her child. The end! :D

i dont understand how is this anything different from other anti-smoking ads... so no, not going too far. I've seen other more hard-hitting ones on tv.
this ad is just stupid. i hate children. it makes me want to smoke.
i remember the "controversy" with this ad. i don't think it's a big deal at all.
poor kid. not a great ad though, imo. you could apply that to anything. i also find that little girls who preach about anti-smoking like to invoke shit like this.

Advertisement companies need to ring up statistics of exactly how much money is being WASTED to the most pointless product: http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Insurance/InsureYourHealth/HighCostOfSmoking.aspx
