  • Poll: Is the Recession Impacting Your Health?

Many of us have had to give up certain luxuries because of the economic downturn. Unfortunately, market researchers have found that one of the main things we’re giving up is our health. This past year, consumers have cut back on buying healthy and organic foods. While the restaurant business is suffering, the fast food business is booming. Even when people cook at home, they tend to be choosing highly processed foods like microwave pizza or frozen entrees. Combine this with the decrease in gym memberships and fitness equipment purchases and what you get is a health recession.

Is the economic recession impacting your diet or fitness routine?
    a) Yes- A lot
    b) Somewhat
    c) No- Not At All

    If so, how?

No? You don't need a gym membership or fitness equipment to exercise. Borrow someone's shoes if you have to. Marshall's has running shoes for like $25. You don't need to buy organic food to be healthy. Raw fruits and vegetables are still pretty fucking cheap. So is chicken.

Do people need an excuse for everything?

not at all. eating healthy is not expensive to me because I know i'm gaining better nutrition than buying processed foods.

If you think fast food is cheaper than food at home, I suggest learning how to do more than follow the directions on the back of a box. There are plenty of healthy recipes that fill you up for cheaper than McDonalds.

I can't debate the shoe rubber point though. My footwear budget is already a black hole and I'm hardly the type to buy shoes just because they're cute.

    C- Not at all.

Walking outside is free, and for the week you just buy the healthy stuff thats on sale. :D

Somewhat. I was going to the gym at school, and I really pushed myself to graduate on time because I couldn't afford to stay there another semester. I told myself I would get a gym membership when I got a job, and no job yet. I work out at home but it's not quite the same (like, there's really not a safe place to go running without driving elsewhere, and I don't drive). I miss the machines at the gym. Lol.

    C. Not at all. Actually, we've been eating (dare I say) healthier. It's because my mom has to lower her cholesterol, so she's been buying whole wheat bread, and more fruits and yogurt. Yummy :p

Somewhat - I cannot afford a gym membership... however, my fiance and I have parked out car and walk everywhere now to save money on gas. The foods at home are all vegan, so there isn't any processed food in the house.

C - Health is a VERY HIGH priority in my life so I haven't changed ANYTHING I have been doing in order to keep me healthy! If you don't have your health you have nothing!

    B. When I go home for break from school, I don't eat a complete meal as I would in school and on meal plan. My mom doesn't go food shopping as often any more or when she does it is not alot.I eat alot of granola bars with on actual meal a day.
