I am seriously considering buying my boyfriend a Wii Fit as a Christmas present. He hates working out or going to the gym, but he loves all types of sports, games, or competitive ventures. We bought a Wii a few months ago and, while I know that it’s no substitute for a regular workout, you can really work up a sweat playing Wii tennis, baseball, and boxing. It certainly burns more calories than watching TV.
My boyfriend loves the Wii and will play even when I’m not around to challenge him. However, I’m not really familiar with Wii Fit. Do any of you own it? Do you actually use it? Is it a decent workout for a person who is not into gyms? I’d love any advice you can offer!

i don't know if it's good, but i heard from a lot of people that it really helped in losing weight. i really really want one!
I have one and I love it. I have Wii Sports too which I love as I enjoy a good boxing work out for my arms and chest - its alot of fun when you can play it together too and its a great way of keeping track of your BMI and weight too.
If you go to Wii Fit Weight Loss you can learn about all of the benefits. I think it's a great workout if you do the stuff right, especially the strength training. Wii Fit Plus is also loads better than the original wii fit.
I've read a lot of posts in weight lose forums about ppl loosing weight w/wii fit. I think if your bf is the couch potato type that spends an hour a day playing video games and he swaps that w/wii fit, then yeah he'll burn more calories every month.
The only thing I don't like about the original is that I hate stopping after each individual exercise. But I've heard that the wii fit plus fixes that problem by letting combine exercises. I want to upgrade for Christmas.
i LOVE my wii fit. i got down to my lowest weight last year on it. unfortunately i gained it all back. =/
the only thing is, it can be very harsh, haha. don't get it for anyone who is the sensitive type.
Thanks! This is really helpful. It sounds like everyone has had a good experience. I would definitely go for the Fit Plus since it was the most recently released.
I say if you use it and lose weight it is good. If you buy it and don't use it then it isn't good. I know plenty of people who spend $1000s on equipment and membership dues and never use them.
Yes! makes me make sure I get in my 40 daily lunges
I LOVE it. Only had it for less than two months and I've noticed a bit of weight loss. Keep this up with free jogging and steps and I'll have my flat stomach in no time ^_^
YES! I truly love to play wii fit! make me feel comfortable, no one watch me what i do or anything..
it's so much fun and i love it :D
I don't have it, but I'm thinking about getting a Wii. I read some reviews for the EA sports Wii fitness program, and it's supposed to be a bit better than Wii fit.
But I go to the gym a lot, so I don't know if a Wii exercise program would be worth it. It would be more of a fun thing, I guess.
I have it and absolutely ADORE it! I would deffinatley reccomend getting it! It's more fun than any other video game for the Wii, anyway. You get so distracted while you're doing it, it's not until the next morning when you realize how much you actually worked out. It shouldn't be your only form of exercise, obviously, but it's much better than playing Mario Kart. :]
I love it so much, and I've lost some weight with it (but then got super busy and have gained it back due to lack of time :( ). When I get the cash I'm also going to invest in the Wii fit plus, since I already have the board I can just buy the game. The games are really fun, too!
It sounds like a good product, I sell it at my work and people can't get enough of it.
Wii FIT IS AWESOME. I've had one for over a year and it's really helped me to leave my sedentary life and get started with exercizing and it keeps me motivated and in track with my progress. And now that I started to get a little bored with the same exercizes (had already mastered most), they released Wii Fit PLUS which is a CD with a whole bunch of new games ^^ I also bought Gold Gym's Academy which is cardio exercizing through boxing and is too cool for words. I could literally not walk after the first day because I had played so much of it and it was just so fun I didn't even realize how tired I was. I should've known, I was dripping from sweat.
The Wii Fit is brutally honest--if you are overweight, it will say so! But other than that, it is a very good workout tool. Just be aware that it will tell you like it is.
I thought it was kinda a marketing gimmick, but seems like everyone has had a reliable experience with it.
I think real exercise would probably burn more calories, but for people like me who don't exercise it's better than doing nothing
like you said, it an never replace a real workout but it is something. I think wii sports is a good gage for the wii fit. It has yoga and workouts and stuff and you can work up a a sweat with those games. they'll never be able to replace the real thing but it's something.
I would say get it for him. But try WiiFit Plus. It's better, IMHO.
I HATE EXERCISING, but I really like my WiiFit. And if he likes WiiSports, he'll probably like it. (:
The only fitness-type things I have for the Wii are Wii Fit and DDR (Yes. I count DDR.)
I really want Wii Fit Plus and/or Wii Active, just to challenge myself.
Since I'm working out a school now, I usually use Wii Fit to track my progress and to do something other than nothing over the weekend.
Plus, I just really like the games :)
I'd suggest it, but like others have said, be careful.
It can be kind of mean about your weight and your "Age".
I love it, and I think if nothing else it's a great start! It is better than nothing, and may be a way ffor him to realize that working out might not be that bad.
I call WiiFit the gateway gym, lol.Oh, and it's fun!its fun.. but after a while, i got bored of it. and it's collecting dust in my living room. oops?
i love it.... frankly theres nothing on there you couldnt do without any equipment. but it keeps your scores.... the muscle exercises are great... they use your own weight. the squats KILL me but i love doing it because it tracks me... and beating scores is fabulous motivation. i drip sweat when i do all the muscle ones... if you have the money to spend... i think its totally worth it.
