How Much Would You Pay for a Gym Membership?
With economic times getting tighter and tighter, more and more people are finding it hard to pay for their gym membership, and many people are putting that as a non-priority on their list of bills.
Times may be tough, but are they too tough to stay in good health?
How much would you pay for a monthly gym membership?
A) It all depends on the amenities.B) Between $50-$100, but no more than that.
C) Below $50 - I'd rather take a walk in the park than pay more than that!
D) No price is too high for my health!

I briefly paid 40$ a month. Went there every day. Would do it again.
the club I work at is currently doing fitness memberships for $37/month, which is competitive with the other clubs around.
We pay around $60 for a family membership and 4 of us go there several times a week. It's a pretty nice facility (YMCA) - there's a pool, hot tub, gym, and weight and cardio equipment. The only problem is that it can be a bit crowded.
A student membership at the YMCA is $26 with no sign on fee. A regular adult is $37 plus a one time $100 fee. Family pays the one time fee and $58 a month.
My answer is B. I can afford to pay higher fees, but why spend more?
A for me. I'm not big on machines, though ocassionally I'll use the treadmill. I prefer classes like yoga, cardio & swim. I'll pay for a bundle of those but not set dates since everyday is different.
L.A. Fitness stalks people so I'm never going again. I used a free pass but the $250+ a month fee was too much so I said no. Then the fuckers called me after hurricane Wilma & asked me if I wanted to take up the after hurricane special when I had no electricity or safe running water to drink. Greedy asses...
I pay $30 a month. I wouldn't pay much more than that.
I pay 20$ a month and I think thats a pretty good deal considering I'm not under a contract. I think the most I would pay though would be 40$ a month.
My membership was $365 for a year with 2 months free and a couple trainer sessions at Anytime Fitness.. so I guess I'd go into that A category.
I pay $15/month but don't go as frequently as I should, of course.
D, i'll pay anything as long as the amenities are good!
i love my gym now :) i'm not sure how much it costs because my parents pay for it but it's wonderfullll!
$0
The fitness center in my apartments just had new equipment put in so it's REALLY nice now.. and it's free. =]
@Athlyx@xanga - So lucky! I'm totally jealous now.
I wouldn't. Waste of money, if you ask me. I prefer to jog around my neighbourhood. Sure, I forked out for the Nike+ sportband (£35), but at least I'm not paying extortionate amounts for a treadmill I'll only use once!
Having said that, kudos to those who actually do make the most of their memberships :)
I don't waste money on gyms. I walk for three hours (minimally) everyday. That works just fine for me, and it's free :)
I've been a member at 3 different gyms. Total expense: free. All were thru my work (the perk for working for a university or hospital - most have gyms that staff are encouraged to attend). If I did have to pay, I would join the YMCA, as ours have a monthly fee of $20 per person. Anymore then that, and I better get a free liposuction and a bathrobe or something. Seriously. ~ L
I spent $600 on a 3-year membership to 24hr Fitness that included 3 1-hour personal training sessions, the membership alone figures to about $17/month- so not bad at all. I know they bank on me to just stop going, but the thought off all that money going to waste is still my motivation to go. I'd never spend more than $30/month on a membership, especially with every gym around me having great specials.
I'm of the 'the great outdoors are free' mindset, as well. I have a few fitness DVDs - that, plus a good pair of shoes and a regular volunteering spot at the local humane society to walk dogs is a good workout for me! I don't have the schedule to commit to a dog full-time, but shelter dogs are a great motivation - plus, I can choose a dog based on whether I want to walk or run that day! Free and fun - that works for me!
$0 The place I live provides a gym on the 4th floor and it's pretty nice. :) Though.... I do pay $800 a month to live there. (SF)
My gym membership is $19.95 a month, and includes use of two different locations, unlimited tanning, unlimited guests, & 50% of cooler drinks. My fiance has the basic membership at the same gym and only pays $9.95 a month for unlimited use at one of their two locations. Def the cheapest membership I've ever had, I don't even use the tanning, except for special occasions or once every couple of weeks to help keep my acne at bay. Yet its cheaper then just paying for tanning at most places.
I found an awesome cheap gym in Harlem says $222 for six months. The year deal is even cheaper ($300-something), but I wasn't sure how longer I'll be living in the area. It's not the nicest gym in the world, but it satisfies all my requirements, and it's a great deal.
i wouldn't, i can work out at home and get the same results without spending the money.
$ 14.95 I got a good deal
Haggle with the gym! (Who knew?) I paid $100 for the initial fee and about $27 a month after that. They wanted a whole bunch more but once they gave their little speech and tour they wanted my business! This was one of those "up and coming" not to mention "women only" gyms. It was nice, but after about 18 months, and the birth of my daughter, I have decided to buy a used treadmill and stay at home for my exercise. *smiles*
