Yesterday Was National Fast Food Day. What the Heck?!?
In a country that is known to be more obese than healthy, do we really need a day to celebrate fast food?Food that you can buy from any fast food place has been known to:
- Raise cholesterol
- Raise blood pressure
- Add excessive amounts of fat and carbs into a daily diet
- Promote unhealthy eating habits
- Contribute to poor nutrition
- Cause or contribute to weight gain and obesity
Have you ever seen the movie "Super Size Me"? If you haven't, you better watch that before you go out and celebrate National Fast Food Day with a McDonald's cheeseburger or a taco from Taco Bell. (See the full movie here on Fancast for free!)
So why do we have a day like National Fast Food Day? And why stop there? Why not have a "National Have a Cigarette Day," or "National Drink Until You Puke Day"?
What do you think of this "holiday"? Has America gone too far over the fast food obsession, or does this give people who normally eat healthy a day off to enjoy a fatty treat?

Pretty sure people are gonna eat fast food any day whether its fast food day or not. Did anyone even know about this?? Lighten up.
I figure there is probably an obscure "holiday" for everything. Few people know about them, so no need to be outraged if you disagree with one.
There are national days (sometimes weeks) devoted to wine, where's the outrage there? Let people have their fun and be able to enjoy something they like. Yes, fast food may be unhealthy, but it's up to the individual on what they do with their bodies. No need to judge people so harshly because you disagree.
I support national fast food day! Fast food is yummy, and not that terrible if consumed in moderation :). Oh! and Supersize Me gave me serious McDonalds cravings, mmm.
yumm.
i just finished 3 slices of pizza, two chocolates, and 2 bowls of spam and rice. o.O
but i didn't have lunch sooo....
What if the day is to avoid fast food? Frankly, I never heard of it, and I don't care it exists. "Fast food" is just another waste of money.
If you eat fast food all the time then it contributes to those. One meal wont kill you. Most of the time when I eat out, I get salads, healthy sandwiches & juice & they're categorized under fast food.
Lighten up seriously.
What a dumb holiday.
It's not a holiday. It's a day of observance and appreciation. Fast food was invented to be conveinant, not a staple.
I hardly eat fast food at all. If I do, I will like to have hamburger. In my hamburger, I will put lettece, tomato, onion and cucumber besides the beef patty so that I have 4 parts of grain, 2 parts of meat, 3 parts of vegetable and fibre. And I will have the pure orange juice for the drink.
That is a standard healthy meal.

I don't think it's that big of a deal. It's not like one holiday is going to make everyone fat. If that was true, everyone would be a Christian because of Easter. (As celebrated as the day of Jesus' resurrection)
But I only eat fast food every couple months anyway, and usually I get a grilled chicken wrap or something.
Don't overreact, it's not a real holiday. I never heard of it, so apparantly there are only so many people who celebrate this day. Move On With Your Life!
I, unlike most the other commenting xangans, actually quite agree with where this entry is heading. I'm not going to tell you to lighten up. This is valid, and people are choosing to ignore the case.
In the high school I went to, we were required to watch Super Size Me in health class. That video made me feel like vomiting. Worse off, it became a trend. Soon enough there were videos surfacing of teenagers eating all 12 meals from Mcdonalds in one sitting, and other ridiculous tasks among the sort.
Fast food places were created to be a convenience for society. But soon enough, we started relying on it. That is where the problem kicked in.
I think it's just a good way to celebrate our culture. It tends to unite us, those of us who can enjoy the fun of a strange holiday. I also am a strong believer in moderation. One day of the year eating some fast food isn't going to kill you.
In my opinion, say, "Hooray Fast Food!" nom some salted-to-perfection french fries, and tomorrow you can go back to your militant health regime of lettuce and whole-grain bread.
"National Drink Until You Puke Day"...Isn't that New Year's? =D
Anyway, I Googled holidays for every day and over half of them have something to do with food. Nice, huh. I think it's stupid. They should have a national Eat Like a Vegetarian Day, or Fast for a Day Day, right? I'd participate.
@calbill - One more thing, take off one of the buns. And there you go. =]
