  • My Take On Losing Weight

    My Take On Losing Weight

Here is my take and what I feel is healthy for people to follow.

I'm aiming for 2-5% body fat because at that rate I will be super happy, but still built enough for my martial arts and working out. On a side note, so many women on here want to lose weight, but (and this might seem like a shallow comment but it is NOT) you're already beautiful. I have no idea how the female mind works for obvious reasons, and I really wish I could understand how women think but i dont. If you are aiming to be healthier by all means lose weight/diet however you want to a HEALTHY weight. But many of the targets and goals I see women have on here is way too unhealthy. I have taken enough health/human anatomy classes to understand what is suitable for both men and females. Ahh maybe I'm just not getting it? Regardless beauty is skin deep, true beauty is in the heart and soul... which translates to the fact that your outside isnt as important as inside right?!!

Key points for you the reader about losing weight and working out!

    1. Eat less. Less caloric intake = more body fat to burn.
    2. Work out in cardio more. this helps because to maximize fat burning potential your max heart rate must be 75-80% for at least 15-20 minutes. Longer than that helps even more, but don't forget that this rule MUST coexist with #1. Because no matter how hard you work out, if you still eat a lot, you will only burn that off and nothing else. In order to burn calories, our metabolism has to find a source to burn... and less calories consumed = more fat to burn off the body.
    3. Keep in mind that consuming less calories does not mean shaving off a ton of everyday caloric intake. As an example: a 4000 daily caloric intake - 500 calories = healthy choice. 4000 daily caloric intake-2000 calories = Bad choice! When your body consumes a certain number of calories and then you in essence "shock" your body (remove a significant amount) with a huge calorie loss, your body will actually hold onto the amount that you do eat because that is how the body works. It will think that you are in a way starving, so it wants to survive and will store all the food it does consume.
    4. Drink plenty of water! Water will be your new best friend if it isn't already. Water serves as a multifunction for a healthy life style. Most importantly it hydrates our body (our bodies are 75-80% water!) and flushes out toxins we consume through urine. It also acts as a appetite suppressant. If you sip water when you are hungry, the mind will believe that you are consuming calories/food and will send signals that you are less hungry. Of course an obvious reason for people exercising and losing weight is that we lose water through sweat (cooling down of the skin and other organs) and we need to replenish that loss. Also some other tips on water are to drink at least 8-10 glasses per day. If you don't like the taste of it, flavor it with a slice of lemon (proven fat burner assistant) or lime to add taste. Also, drinking water in the morning will help you wake up because your body is in a way lacking hydration while you sleep.
    5. Make friends with a comfortable pair of workout shoes. If your feet are not happy, rest assured the rest of your body will know this. The best pair of workout shoes are the ones that allow your feet to breathe, while also supporting the heel, ball of the foot, and the arc.
    6. Have a friend to work out with. Encouragement from others can be a positive influence in your dedication to exercising and losing weight. If you cant find someone to workout with, make friends with a personal trainer to help you out, or bring an mp3 player so that music can help you focus on your goal for that day.
    7. Finally, have fun while working out. I can guarantee you will not lose a ton of weight in the first couple of weeks if you are working out and dieting the healthy way. That is because your body like everyone elses, has to adjust to change. Our bodies are like an adjustable machine. In that sense, with time your body will begin to lose weight and you will feel great. And that will be something that people will notice.

    I hope this helps!

Do you think these tips can help with weight loss? What are some of your tips?

    2-5% body fat - that`s a LOW number
The American Council on Exercise deems 8-12% of body fat is essential for males (10-12% for females), athletes 14-20% (female) and 6-13% (male)
you body needs some sort of fat to run on

  • koreansoul09@xanga

@JoeytheGenie@xanga - haha what bout bruce lee? he was only 1.5% n he was amazing???

  • cherrypopstar@xanga

omgsh haha. 2-5 % body fat...

you're like the male verson of the females on here. high goals. ;)

  • FairyTalesAndWhiskey@xanga

@koreansoul09@xanga - That is indeed a sweet goal. Bruce Lee is one of my heroes. But seriously, the dude invented Jeet Kune Do and was already way beyond the rank of mere mortals as it was...

  • tastytimmm@xanga

Did Bruce Lee really have 1.5% bodyfat? I do believe that holding and sustaining any bodyfat percentage lower than 5% is quite difficult and unhealthy. Lots of cellular functions in the body rely on fat to work... Lemme find some studies :P but even bodybuilders cannot sustain bodyfats lower than 5% for very long at all.

Yeah, I'm a little concerned about your body fat aims ... a percentage of your body fat is the fatty deposits around your organs, which helps protect them from harm. Your body also needs fat to produce estrogen which aids in calcium absorption, meaning a lack of body fat can lead to loss of bone density and osteoporosis ... long story short, I think your body might need more than 2-5% fat content to function properly.

  • driftingpebble@xanga

We eat for more reasons than calories, we need materials, not just energy. Make sure you get your calories from nutrition dense foods. That is critically important for good health.

And the fewer calories you take in the MORE you need to make sure the foods are nutrition dense, because you have to get what you need with a lesser intake of food.

If you are taking in 4000 calories a day (you'd better be a marathon runner if you take in that many because that is like twice what a normal person needs)...you can get your protein intake from a big old greasy slice of cheese and sausage pizza, if you are a 1,200 calorie a day person you'd better be thinking no fat yogurt and lentils. And of course everyone needs their fruits and veggies.

  • koreansoul09@xanga

@cherrypopstar@xanga - haha oh no that is what im striving against!! but yeah def i want that, because it will help in my martial arts training definitely and also because i think it would be great. btw nice pic =P

@FairyTalesAndWhiskey@xanga - definitely! he was one of my heroes as well along with jet li and jackie chan and donnie yen but for different reasons than most people believed. Funny thing is that they almost all were born into poverty and had to make use of their body in martial arts. Altho i think Lee defined what it was like to be shall i say - super human lol

@tastytimmm@xanga - yup i actually have his book "expressing the human body" and i think it was in that one where they tested his BMI and his fat was like 1.5%. its amazing and it is possible, if you slowly get there and reach it. i feel that if he could do it, anyone could, but this includes eating healthy (as he did do) and also having a healthy workout regiment. Of course he also told his good friend Taky Kimura while they were running on the beach this if Taky felt like he was gonna die while running "then die." altho it was a joke, u could see how serious Lee was about training. That and killing punching bags lol

@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - thnx im still waiting to see your face lol

@dopegalore@xanga - definitely helps keep u on track!

@hildemollerknag@xanga - true and i appreciate your concern on the issue however i would like to counter argue if i may. the fat around some of the organs does help protect them BUT muscle mass is also a key part in protecting them. Because it is leaner and more absorbant that fat, it protects to a much higher degree. Also calcium is indeed something that the body needs, however supply of it to the bones is actually induced by Vitamin D (sunlight, fortified foods, low fat daily products) and by magnesium which both help the bones absorb it. True women are at an increased risk of osteoperosis (sp?) so they can also take calcium pills to help with this. So in the end vitamin/ minerals & if needed calcium pills are MUCH more needed than fat supplies. Believe me i questioned my anatomy and health professors on this issue just to be a pain in their asses. lol

@driftingpebble@xanga - very good advice!! i agree with this, and i am by no means a marathon runner haha. definitely and i should have posted that but i will on the next one about fruits and veggies being very important alongwith grains!!

  • hildemollerknag@xanga

@koreansoul09@xanga - Oh, okay, cool. I'm glad you're doing your research.

  • NowAndForeverTonight@xanga

  • Mr_HaO@xanga
  • Got_Takoyaki@xanga

Great tips. Thank you for sharing! Kam sam ham ni da!~
For me, eat every 4 hours... don't eat after 6. If you do, drink water or eat fruits. XD

  • koreansoul09@xanga

@Got_Takoyaki@xanga - haha ur welcome. technically you can eat after 6, but i do like ur idea of fruits and water, water is like magic, its helps us with anything!

  • goblinsinthemirror@xanga

as a chick I hate to say this but whenever I'm dating someone and it's going well. I stress easily, and stress creates fat, so when I'm dating a guy, he keeps me distracted and helps me burn calories!

  • Got_Takoyaki@xanga

@koreansoul09@xanga - have you heard of this diet? Morning - Eat like a king Afternoon - Eat like a prince. Night - Eat like a beggar. XD heehee

  • Shattered_Reflection13@xanga

2-5% body fat is potentially fatal.

  • lilly__vanilly@xanga

I hear this method works fast and well, in addition to drinking plenty of water and changing your eating habits permanenty- It comprises of 20 seconds of intense exercise followed by 10 seconds of rest. Keep doing this for 4 minutes. So you should end up having done 8 sets and 8 rests in 4 minutes. You can do this with compound exercises, the best are running and swimming.

  • midnightblu3@xanga

Nice. I feel #6 is the most important. I've been trying to lose the weight I gained since going to college, and I feel a motivated workout buddy helps me keep on track the most. Good luck to us both!

  • ScylentKnyte@xanga

    #1 should be Eat right

Some people don't really know what they're doing and they might end up anorexic

  • cestlavie_21@xanga

geez, didnt think the comments would be people ragging on you for the one little thing they think is wrong lol. so you have a goal, thats all it is, a goal. my personal trainer said guys could go as low as 3 or 4, personally everyones bodies are different and if you can reach that goal rock on:)

but all in all, i came to comment to tell you that i like this, its positive and its wonderful:) and its true haha. its hard being healthy...specially being a female...i know that sounds lame, but our minds are pretty fucked up. were taught throughout friends, family, and especially the media, that we want to lose weight as fast as possible, and in order to lose that weight we much eat like a super model, throw out everything we love, and work our asses to the bone on a treadmill till we throw up, that is if there is anythign to throw up from our 3 apple a day diet. its hard. i know that beign a fat guy would suck, it would, they have feelings to and they dont like to be fat eaither...yet fat guys are still considered great (media wise) i know its a funny example, yet im going to name a few (ive had the flu and have been bed ridden for a week now so ive watched alloottt of tv lol) : family guy, fat funny man. hot skinny wife. american dad was on the other day, his wife stopped her treadmill puking no food scheme and let it all hang out, dont get me wrong, hilllarrrioussss episode, yet he couldnt love her because she wasnt beautiful. simpsons, fat dad, hot wife, king of queens fat guy hot wife. the fat guys are more accepted. (yet they better be funny i guess because no one likes a skinny comedian lol sorry seth rogen quote) anyways. point being, you dont want to know how a womens mind works because most, are simply terrifying. i had quite a bad habit with eating disorders back in the day, it took some time but im finally getting out of it yet it will always be in the back of my mind. its an every day struggle to be healthy with everyone pucshing stick thin gossip girls at you haha, yet point being, more people need to post things like this. get those gears rolling in females heads. so thanks:)

  • koreansoul09@xanga

@NowAndForeverTonight@xanga - thnx, hope they help if you follow em! ^_^

@goblinsinthemirror@xanga - haha i think ur comment confused me a little, are u saying that stress is from your relationship, or from NOT having a relationship

@Got_Takoyaki@xanga - ahha i have never heard of that, but if thats the case technically a king eats a lot and has a grand feast. The prince still has a grand feast because of his position and his father being the king....but the begger eats very little for obvious reasons. I dont know bout u but 2 feasts in a day may make you gain weight! lol

@Shattered_Reflection13@xanga - i do agree with you, it can be fatal IF it is achieved through the wrong method and means. However if a person takes the time and determination to hit that goal in a considerable amount of time without "shocking" the body as i stated then it will be much more attainable without damaging effects.

@lilly__vanilly@xanga - i have heard of this method however the best time to do this is AFTER you have sufficiently warmed your body, and when your heart rate is already at 60 - 80% of your max heart rate. Im not telling you to kill yourself working out BUT if you try to do it cold turkey i guarantee the only thing you will achieve is a sprain, strain, tear, or overtensed muscle. I do agree with you on swimming and running, best aerobic and anaerobic exercises there are.

@midnightblu3@xanga - haha thnx. definitely good luck to you! my issue is that my workout partner (best friend) has a kid so he has other commitments. I could be called the "care & worry free bachelor" who has no commitments. Luckily his not being able to workout hasnt affected me at all. Im still going to the gym, and imma post my workout on here so others hopefully can get the same benefit out of it as well!

@ScylentKnyte@xanga - I do agree that some people might follow this the wrong way, but that is why i placed #3 and 4 in here. If you eat at a steady rate and reduce your calories a small amount at a time, it is much healthier for people. 500 calories can be something as simple as a fast food cheeseburger, or that extra slice of people. And of course water is what's needed always.

@cestlavie_21@xanga - haha you know i throughly enjoyed your comment. I read it 3 times just so i could get every piece of it in my mind (not that im slow! just like to understand completely lol)
first off thank you for your comment/compliments. Buts its not me thats as you say wonderful. Its you and everyone else who cares to read this and critique and/or observe. Because people read this and actually care to give their input makes me want to write more and give me of what knowledge i do possess. altho i am in no way a genius lol. But i want to respond to your words. you're right, it is so hard nowadays to be healthy, almost everything is fattening or steroided up. and by no means are your words lame, infact i think its harder for women in society because like you say a women is supposed to look a certain way while fat dudes are fine. personally i think kevin james is a spaz, but i do love family guy lol. I cant say i understand 100% in relation to a female, because i am a dude but i can see exactly what you saying about society and what females are supposed to look like, i actually wrote another piece on something similar to that, i will send you the link for it. And yes u can see all over tv that big boys are accepted (hope ur flu subsides and u feel better!) but im glad that you do point out that most women's minds are terrifying haha i agree! not in a bad way, i would say its more because women are determined to fit "society's mold" otherwise they are almost shunned! sorry that you had to go through your share of disorders BUT im glad that you have overcome it! also i do like ur display pic, its what happens when society pressures people to the utmost level of stress.
