Excessive Calcium Can Cause Osteoporosis?!
Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by low bone mass and loss of bone tissue that may lead to weak and fragile bones. Osteoporosis is not about the inability to build strong bones, but about premature degeneration of the bones.
Calcium is required to support bone growth, bone healing and maintain bone strength and is one aspect of treatment for osteoporosis. Good sources of calcium include milk and dairy products, such as hard cheese and yogurt, dried apricots or figs and some green leafy vegetables such as watercress and curly kale.
So although calcium is important in maintaining healthy bones, excessive calcium intake may actually cause greater bone porosity and fractures. Excess calcium gets deposited in soft tissues of bones and thus leads to development osteoarthritis or osteoporosis.
One of the most interesting sets of studies was done at Harvard University for 12 long years. The studies found who drank milk three times a day actually broke more bones than women who rarely drank milk. Similarly, a 1994 study in Sydney, Australia, showed that higher dairy product consumption was associated with increased fracture risk: those with the highest dairy consumption had double the risk of hip fracture compared to those with the lowest consumption.
For example, In Japan dairy as part of the diet was almost non-existent until recently. And only now are the rates of osteoporosis among women increasing. In China has shown similar results. In that country, osteoporosis is still very uncommon, even though dairy products are not a part of the diet of most Chinese people.
Milk and calcium are important for bone density, especially if they are not breastfeeding. If you do choose to eliminate milk from your diet as an adult, make sure you replace the vitamins and nutrients it provides with other healthy sources.

You need magnesium to absorb the calcium into your bones too... Otherwise may as well just not have calcium! Too much of any thing can have negative affects.
@Charity_the_So_Called_Artist@xanga - Exactly, there are many other factors. Magnesium, Vitamin D intake/ Synthesis, Geneticpredisposition. I want to see this article so I can see how they tested this/ selected the subjects.
Also, from what I have observed, Asian people have incorporated Calcium into thier diet by eating tofu treated with Calcium and eating parts of bone in their meals.
Of course, ODing on Calcium is definitely bad, but I find it hard to believe it

@winniecantthink@xanga - This has been common knowledge for quite some time.
Milk is not key to bone health, I wish you would edit that out, it is not a nutrient, or a mineral, it does not help your bones at all. Calcium does yes, but milk is not the only source. Casein (in milk) is actually too acidic for our body to process so in order to neutralize the acidity in it our bones release their own calcium, which makes our bones weaker.
Research released on how "milk does the body good" is done by people who are paid by the milk industry, and they make a lot of money so can falsely advertise this garbage to us. Read the research that hasn't been paid for by the industry trying to sell its products (remember when cigarettes were good for you? same thing the milk industry is doing).
Its been known for a long time that dairy is not good for you, but whether or not you hear it depends on who you get your information from.

When doing studies everything needs to be taken into account:
Lifestyle: Depending on how easily could they get into a situation where bones might break.
Nutrition: EVERYTHING they eat.
Stress levels.
Amount of sleep.
Quality of sleep.
etc.. etc..
Derp, derp. Of course.
Many people are now learning what the dairy industry DOES NOT want you to find out: Dairy does NOT help you build strong bones, and in fact, it is actually harmful. It's not so much "too much" calcium that's the problem with dairy- it's the junk naturally found in milk that humans just weren't meant to guzzle. And you need other nutrients to absorb calcium, too.

CALCIUM TOXICITY-
rare- due to regulation of absorption- hyperparathyriodism
effects- nephrolithiasis, hypercalcemia (deposition of calcium in soft tissues), decreased absorption of zine and iron.
Potential Dangers of Hyperparathyroidism
<li>Severe osteoporosis and osteopeniayes it can be true. but its usually because of problems with absorption, the parathyroid hormone. this brings calcium into the blood.
Excess protein, especially animal protein causes loss of calcium and puts you at risk for osteoporosis, and dairy has animal protein. Eating calcium from leafy greens, beans, and other non-animal protein sources is better for calcium absorption. It's something you hear from any osteoporosis organization.
