Honey! I Can't Stop Coughing!
It actually may not be a good idea to suppress your cough since it’s “the body’s way of cleaning the upper chest and throat.” However, when it’s to the point where you can’t sleep at night, then two teaspoons of honey will help ease your cough. (Source from Fitness Magazine).
Honey works in three ways; “(1) It soothes your throat, (2) it also contains a compound that blocks the cough reflex in the brain, and (3) its acidity kills bugs."
Remember the darker the color of honey, the more effective it is in your relieving your cough.
Have you tried this technique before? Do you know of any other methods that worked for you?

It works, my little sister downed a whole bottle of local, raw honey over the course of 2 weeks during her cold a while back, she liked the soothing feeling in her throat. I haven't had a sore throat for a long time (years?) so I've never tried it. But yes, the darker the better! Get local to soothe allergies!
I've heard ginger is good. My mother usually boils raw ginger and drinks the water that results from it.
I actually hadn't heard of this. I'm just getting over a cold, so it would have been good to know a few days ago! I'll have to remember it for next time.
Good idea. I know honey is good for a lot of things, remedy-wise. I'd never thought of coughs before, though.
I didn't know of this method before, but it makes sense. I'm glad to learn of it, though. I'm always looking for more natural remedies for things. :)
