  • Getting Healthy - in More Ways than One

Getting Healthy - in More Ways than One

My whole life, I've had problems with food. It started out when I was five years old, at the time of my parents' separation, when I thought I was fat. I was actually a skinny toddler. From there, it transformed into overeating disorder, as I found comfort in food when I couldn't find it from my "happy family," to anorexia, to simple bingeing, to anorexia again, and then most recently to bulimia. I've started getting therapy, so I am no longer bulimic, but I would also hurt myself in other ways, like cutting and smoking.

Ever since my bad trip, I've realized just now important my life really is. In one instant, it made me decide to quit smoking, to quit hurting myself, to quit being unhealthy... Just the next day, my mother had a talk with me about how she really wants me to no longer have weight problems, and how she wants to support me to really get rid of the weight. We decided that I would run on the treadmill everyday, no exceptions, and I'd only eat proteins and veggies, so I could get down to 135 lbs by summertime. When I started out on the 23rd, I weighed 171 lbs (with a BMI of 28). Now, the 26th, I weigh 166lbs. I've been running thirty minutes a day, making each day a new speed a bit more challenging.

I know I'm just at the beginning of this journey, but I just want to let you know that it really is possible to get healthy. Even if you're 200 lbs or 300 lbs, it's not impossible for you. It may be hard to take that first step, but once you do, it only gets easier. You'll notice you start to look forward to exercise, because you know you're doing it to improve yourself and your health. You'll notice you start to really feel good after a good work out, and you'll realize the more sweat, the better. You'll notice you start to really change form, and your fat seems to just melt away.

    Are you getting healthy?

im so happy for you!!!!!!!!!!!!:) that is amazing babe, i knwo what you mean though. i was bulimic, annoretic, binges, everything. i was cranky, i hated myself, all i wanted to do was be alone and cry and hate myself more. to top it off i was gaining weight.  ive finally been getting a better self esteem and decided, now that i feel good about myself, lets start being healthy. ive been doing 2 hr classes at the gym (always a high powered cardio class and then a yoga class, the yoga class is amazing it really helps you relax get stress free and just...be happy!) and ive been eating 1200 cals a day in fresh fruits and veggies and almons and proteins, im already down a pants size and 8lbs:) and youre right, the more you work out the better it feels. im so happy for you! its so much easier to go with your day when you dont have to worry about restricting and everything.

good luck babe, keep it up!!!!!!!!!!!

It's great that you are trying to lose weight in a healthy way. it sounds like running is giving you a focus and a confidence boost. just be careful about running everyday. that can be really hard on your body, especially for women because of the alignment of our joints. try to mix in some other types of exercise too so that you can avoid common injuries and keep running for years to come. good luck!

I'm glad to hear that you've developed a more healthy lifestyle! Congratulations! I hope you can stick to it, but be careful running every day, especially on a treadmill. I screwed up my knees doing that.

You are right to say that it is quite hard to take that first step. I am lucky that I do not encounter such problem. I learn from mistakes made  by people I knew and I make sure I do not repeat their mistakes.

Just make sure you are doing it for you, not for your Mom or anyone else. Otherwise it will come right back on.

Good for you! Your ED history and causes sound exactly like mine...so I can empathize. I'm glad you've decided to get healthy all around though...good luck!

It's so hard to stay away from junk food and to keep exercising. I'm so out of shape. x_x

But I'm trying! My breakfast was so healthy I wanted to gag, but its worth it right?

Congratulations!!!  I also recently decided treadmill every day no exceptions.  I just want to lose a few and feel good.  I'm hoping you feel good too.  You should.  Self-worth and self-love are very difficult to find - especially when you've lost them for a long time (I used to cut as well).  Sounds like you're doing great and I hope you continue to!

  • irishluck20@xanga

I've also done the same. My xanga is my journey to weight loss and I'm just beginning. I've so far lost about 4 pounds in two weeks. And your journey sounds similar to mine (minus the bulimia and anorexia, I just binged) - my parents also split when I was young and I was a thin child up until I was about.... 6 and that's when I started to gain weight.

But you are so motivational!! I love reading things like this!!
