When women go on diets, one of the first foods they often cut out is cheese. We’ve all been warned about how adding a tiny sprinkle of cheddar can turn your healthy salad into a worse-than-a-burger indulgence. And that cheese plate at the party? Stay far, far away from it. But what if cheese has gotten a bad rap? What if cheese could actually help you maintain a slim, healthy weight?
As it turns out, it can. A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows that women who ate an ounce of full fat cheese everyday, gained fewer pounds over time than women who avoided the dairy product. Researchers believe that this is because whole dairy contains conjugated linoleic acid, which may energize the metabolism.
The key here is portion control. Eating eight ounces of cheese a day will not help anyone lower their weight, so be sure to follow the one-ounce rule. With that in mind, you can enjoy a little bit of your favorites- goat cheese, cheddar, parmesan- everyday. Check out these recipes suggestions and nutrition guidelines at Self for a little inspiration.
Do you use whole of low fat dairy products? Does this study change your perspective?

We like a lot of recipes that call for cheese. I do my best to buy either the Kraft that uses 2% milk or to buy the Cabot cheese that's 50% or 75% reduced fat. I honestly think the jalapeno Cabot (75% reduced fat) is the best cheese I've had in a long time. :)
Oh man, no study could keep me away from cheese. Apart from tofu and broccoli, cheese has been among my favourite foods (EVAR) since I was a baby. I could never cut it out.
Omg I hate cheese! Unless it's on a pizza or in my lasagna or something
We have some type of cheese on a daily basis. I think the key to good health is to eat a variety of foods.
I love cheese too much to let it go. And cheese is about one of the only ways I receive any amount of calcium in my diet which is kind of sad now that I think of it. D:
I've noticed that when I'm on a diet, if I eat 3 dairy servings a day, I loose weight from my stomach and waist. Not sure if this would work on everyone though.
Too bad I can't eat dairy. Vegan + Lactose Intolerance = no dairy for me.
Is there a link to an article about this?
oh yeah cheese can def help u lose or maintain weight...same with peanut butter.
And they are full of flavor and are SO GOOD so they will keep your cravings for other fattening food at bay!also, incredibly nutritiousss
I think I've heard of that. I eat a little bit of cheese most days, so I guess I'm doing well!
I'm lactose intolerant but I have trouble giving up cheese. XD
Yesss! I l LOVE cheese. Last time I went to the grocery store, I bought 6 different cheeses lol.
No.
i LOVE cheese.
My favorite food is cheese, so I would never adopt any diet that made me give it up. In fact, I lost 30 pounds eating some form a real cheese everyday. It's about portion control, choosing certain cheese (feta is better then mozzarella for example) and being conscious of what you are eating over all. ~ L
Cheese will make you fat, it's from milk, and milks only true purpose is to fatten up cows. That is what it is for... taking baby 60lb or smaller calves and turning them into a couple 1000lb cow. They do not get there on grass, its all on milk.
i love cheese that i think i eat too oftenly.
See, my poison is totally cheese - and carbs. I can't stand the thought of living life without them and know that if I were to go cold-turkey on them, it'd ultimately fail. That's why portioning everything is great. It's the classic solution to weight loss - exercise frequently and enjoy, in moderation, the foods you love.
yessssssss now we can all go cheese OD!
it is healthy. even in the south beach diet, they really urge people to eat low fat cheese. its good for you because its protein. ive been on the south beach diet and i would eat low fat cheese with almost every meal every day and i did lose a lot of weight. :)
Yes, but only if you eat that one ounce of cheese INSTEAD of some other snack you would normally eat, not if you eat it on top of everything you eat already!
I LOOVE cheese...Provologne, Brie, Harvatti...mmmmmmmmmmm My fave is the Laughing Cow, those are little wedges of heaven. Although I have no clue whatsoever what kind of cheese that is.
i fsking love cheese. :P
but i'm not going to dramatically increase my cheese intake because of this.
i think i eat about an ounce a day already.
Anything done to excess can kill you.. even exercise! Anything in moderation is fine should be the rule. Want to do something fine do a little but don't let anything consume you! Of course as a Vegan I can say I avoid animal produces and by-produces. Ok, sometimes I have milk chocolate, honey, and even a little cheese (which makes me a bad Vegan) lol. But I am healthier now because of lifestyle choices. 50 lbs less of me from 1 year ago, diabetes under control with medication oh and I don't exercise yet, image how much better I will be when I start!
Anything in Moderation!
