I Workout... to Look Good in Bed?

I was out with my girlfriends a few months ago and we were all talking about our work out routines. Most of the girls did the same things, excessively too. I felt kind of bad that I didn't work out as much as them. One of my friends, we'll call her "D" asked, "Why do you work out Abigail?"

My answer... "to feel better." I have way more energy, I feel better about myself inside and out. I know that it's a good thing for my health. Plus it's an excuse to listen to music and catch up with Cosmo and Glamor for an hour every night.

I thought my answer was going to be just like everyone else's. I was mistaken. My group of friends all kind of just looked at eachother.

"What? Isn't that why you all work out? To make yourself feel good."

My very out spoken friend laughed and responded. "NO! Hell, the only reason I work out is so I can look good in the sack!"

Every girl laughed, but agreed with her. They all worked out for the same reason. To have a sexy body so they look good while they're having sex. Mind you, these are all the same girls who don't have steady relationships and tend to sleep around.

I wasn't sure if I should feel stupid that I never thought about that, or feel better about myself that I work out to feel good for me, not so that my boyfriend thinks I look hot. (Although I do want him to think I look hot.)

It seemed like an oxymoron to me. Working out and eating healthy is to make you healthy. Yet, your doing this to look good while you have sex, and these girls don't use the best kinds of protection (i.e. pull out method) with men they barely know... Is this how the real world really thinks?

Do you workout to look good in bed? Why do you workout?

i've always thought that if i were having sex, the man i'd be having sex with would be content enought with me that he wouldn't expect me to have a killer body. especially just for sex purposes.

my answer would have been the same as yours. also, it's what we're supposed to do to stay healthy.

I workout to look good in general, but I especially work out so that I look good in bed & in swimsuits

  • methodElevated@xanga

I workout to be healthy.  I don't want to face the same fate as my father:  developing diabetes and then dying of a massive heart attack at 49.

Exercise also is one of the few things that helps me maintain my sanity.

  • Dhurakha@xanga

I don't see how this is relevant to the fact they sleep around or don't use good protection during sex. It just sounds like you're calling them shallow sluts and then asking if that's how most people are. That's how I interpret it, anyways.

I work out to be healthy, feel good, to look good for myself and to up my attractive factor

  • mylinhthan@xanga

I'm just as shocked as you are...disappointed that some people think that way too. I don't think looks play that much of a factor as a lot of people think either. According to my guy friends, a lot of girls can be super hot with a nice body and abolutely TERRIBLE in bed, lol. O_o

I workout to relieve stress and feel better about myself also, as well as to maintain good health. Looking good as a result is just a bonus, it shouldn't be the only reason to exercise.

    Judgey much?

Whatever reason someone chooses to engage in healthy behavior (potentially hazardous sexual behavior aside- that's a different issue and maybe a little out of context in this post), I say is a good reason.

For me: health and longevity are high on the list, but wanting to look good (both in and out of clothing) is just as motivating.

  • imperfect_still@xanga

I'd work out even if it didn't change my physical appearance, but on days when I really really don't feel like working out one of the biggest motivations is my looks. I mean yeah I love the endorphins and the way I can clear my head with a good work out, but another big part of it is definitely to look better.

  • michcoy@xanga

I workout to feel good too so I am with you on that one!  That should be everyone's reason for working out!

  • lydia4130@xanga

you are pretty quick to judge your friends...what type of friend does that make you?

  • Tanezia_Delight@xanga

    Hmmm.....is that a problem?

  • nataloo390@xanga

i workout because it gives me more energy. i feel accomplished & i don't feel like a lazy ass. i agree with your friends.. i wanna look good while i'm having sex too, but that's not my only reason. it gives me more self confidence. and i love putting on an outfit and feeling hot.

  • Morningstarrising@xanga

You know, working out to be healthy is great, and that's wonderful motivation.  But working out to look good is a nice side benefit.  If it gets your friends in the gym, then I think that's great.  It probably won't be very long-term, though, if that's the only reason they work out.

And I think your post was WAYYYYY judgmental.
BTW - haven't I read this post before? Must have been featured somewhere else - lovelyish, maybe?
  • crystaldurden@xanga

I don't work out to look good while having sex, necessarily [though that is a good bonus;)], but more just to look good naked, even if nobody else ever sees it. You know it feels nice to think "damn, I look good today."

And actually, that's probably kind of what your friends meant, too. Even if they never had sex again, I'm sure they'd still want to look great in their birthday suits.

  • P0RCELA1N_D0LL@xanga

this has been featured on datingish, lovelyish and mancouch but I'll answer again with something different because I can another reason that I work out is to look good when I stare at myself naked in my full length mirror then seduce my lover with my sexxxay body lol

  • mynameisblueskye@xanga

@P0RCELA1N_D0LL@xanga - I knew this was going to be featured on Healthkicker in the future, too. I knew it!

  • CuriousiTea@xanga

How many times have I seen this post?

  • HisKeiki@xanga

I workout to stay healthy and keep my body in shape because I'd rather be fit than overweight. Confidence is a plus, and working out is definitely a stress reducer. I like being active.
I also do it to look good, too, but only for one guy. (:

  • helpmewin21@xanga

This is how some of the world thinks. I work out to feel good too, like you.

I workout for two reasons...1) I'm on the XC team for my college, so I have to (but I enjoy it very much!!!) and 2) I have a strange (or maybe not so strange) fear of being fat when I'm older...so i'm trying to prevent that...  And okay..number 3) if I don't workout i feel like my boobs will only keep getting bigger, and I don't want that to happen. =/ ...weird I know.

I work out because I want a healthy, sculpted body

  • vladacullen@xanga

i wouldn't devote that much time and energy to looking good for people i barely know. i have slept around quite a bit, but when i try to look good, it's to impress people who matter in my life, not random strangers i go to bed with.

  • Ulma@xanga

Disregarding their sex "ethics" I believe that working out for the purpose of looking good in bed is actually perfectly alright.
I'm not in a relationship and I don't sleep around much. I do think that exercising will improve your sex life, make you feel more confident in bed and really create a better kind of intimacy as many girls are ashamed of their body and try to hide themselves during sex.
Working out for whatever reason is positive (unless you're going absolutely mental, obviously).

I want to look good in bed, I want to feel good in bed, I want to be able to experiment in bed, but I also want a healthy body that makes me feel good in general!

  • Smaragdwind@xanga

Well, I AM in a steady relationship (married for 2 years) and i still work out to look hot in bed.

Ask yourself one honest question: if it would change NOTHING in your appearance, would you still do it just for the "feeling better" part?

  • johnjihoonchang@xanga

I work out because my family has a history of obesity related health problems and I want none of that. As I'm practicing chastity, I've no need to look good in bed.
