Are There Benefits to Drinking Hot Water?
Lately I've heard a lot about people drinking hot water instead of bottled, tap, or chilled water. They all claim it is better for you, but no one seems to have a reason why.Water is water no matter what, right?
What benefits could come from heating up water before drinking? Does hot water have health benefits?

i dunt see the difference. i prefer room temperature water.
maybe cause of the cold season? hot drinks are welcomed@joggingpigs@xanga - I prefer room temperature too.
Maybe it's because it's a good way to get people to drink more water in the winter. People obviously drink less water in the winter because they don’t feel dehydrated or thirsty like they do in the warm months. The problem is, they actually are dehydrated and they don’t know it. Sounds like a good idea to me.
I think there are benefits to drinking hot water. I don't have any scientific backing, but I think ingesting hot things in general is good for the body. Chinese people like to drink hot drinks. Hot tea and hot water. I'm used to drinking cold water, so hot water tastes nasty to me, but I really do believe that hot water is better for you.
It helps if you have gas (the heat helps move it around), but that's the only benefit I'm aware of.
When you have a fever, your body is heating up to destroy viruses (by denaturing the viruses). By drinking hot water, you're helping your body not need to make so much heat.
logical, not scientific.
calories create heat by splitting ATP into ADP and heat. so part of the overall effect of the reaction is heat. much more in the colder months but even in spring and fall it also helps keep the body warm without having to work. and heated muscles work much better. so because you are pouring it into the stomach, you will also be offering a positive warming to the organs around it, ofering that same type of heat bennifit.now this should have an overall net loss in terms of personal efficiency kinda like becoming addicted to sleep aids. but as long as it isn't abused it shouldn't have too damaging an effect. (if even a noticeable one)(i'm not advocating drinking scalding water)
personally i think tea would be better than plain water because the nutrients might be better absorbed, and possibly keep the heat inside longer. (in the winter)
I like my water ice cold. I do not like it luke warm nor do I like it hot unless you put a teabag or
some instant coaco in it
My coworker drinks hot water and everyone makes fun of him. Drinking plain hot water is weird.
if the person is sick with nasal congestion and/or a sore throat, then hot/warm water will help sooth the throat and the steam from the hot water will help clear up the nasal passage like a personal humidifier
it isn't a definite cure but it'll help. I usually drink semi-hot water or hot drinks like coffee or hot chocolate if it is very cold and I need to get warmer quickly.
besides initial ingestion and maybe 15-20 seconds after, the heat of the water reaches your body's temperature pretty quickly.
I don't see the point. But it is great for tea when you're sick!
It aids your digestion....
Why do you think Chinese people drink mainly hot drinks with their meals?
It's very American to have iced drinks with food.
Bleh.
I like cold drinks and cold drinks only...
Unless it's hot chocolate.

only thing i can think of is killing any bacteria in the water, but then don't they filter water before bottling and selling? o.o
I can see a reason why people drink warm but not hot water...
@shades_oftheskye@xanga - Yes your right, they do filter the bottled water but in tap water there is fluoride and bottled water does not have any added.
@Pcgecko85@xanga - haha, you may believe it's weird but you have a lot to learn my dear.
@ELIZerson@xanga - my chinese mother told me that too! hahah.
i love hot tea. i love ice-cold water. it depends on the season/temperature for me, mostly... you won't find me drinking scalding water in july -__-
@cornyonacob@xanga - haha me either.... i don't really drink tea, and I'd die without having ice-cold cokes. But that was definitely a straight up quote from MY Chinese mom :) Love it.
I do this all the time, although I don't know if there are any health benefits to it. I just like the heat. :)
The only thing I've heard as far as science/health related reasons is due to fat. Certain fats solidify when cold or at room temperature. By drinking cold water you're causing the fat the harden in your body thereby creating blockage. But when drinking warm/hot water you're helping to flush that fat, still liquid because of the warmth, through your body faster. I don't think it really matters. Any water would warm up to body temperature pretty quickly and your body temperature runs avg 98.6 which is well above room temperature. If you're ill, though, or have a lot of mucous build up, it's good for breaking that up :P
i'm going to laugh at people's ignorance ...
Well... heating up tap water so its hot will remove impurities, I've seen what is in the local water supply, and its shocking so I might as well drink it piping hot.
I just drink my water at room temperature, but cold water is absorbed by the body faster, which is ideal if you are dehydrated.
room temp water is best. haha.
