Why Crash Diets DON'T Work!
You need to lose 10 pounds for your 10th class reunion and you need to do it quick, but do crash diets really work? The cabbage soup diet, the master cleanse, the lemon juice diet – so many diets and so little food. What is the best way to lose weight really fast short of starving yourself?
It is possible to lose weight on these diets, but realize that most of the weight you do lose will be predominantly water weight. It may work to temporarily fit into those size 6 jeans, but as soon as you resume your regular eating habits, the weight will come back.
Carbohydrates that come from white flour and sugar hold on to water and they make you bloated. When you stop eating those foods, you will lose the water weight and will probably fit into those skinny jeans. But how long can a person maintain a diet that consists of cabbage soup or lemon water? Realistically, not very long. Cabbage soup is good to eat as long as it’s part of a healthy, balanced diet, and lemons are great to squeeze into your water or onto your vegetables.
The best way to lose weight and lose it for good is to eat a diet consisting of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains like brown rice, oats and quinoa, and 3-4 ounce portions of lean protein at every meal. It’s also best to eat 5 smaller meals everyday instead of 3 large meals. That way you will keep your metabolism burning at a steady, even pace. Keep yourself hydrated. Drink 7 to 8 glasses of water a day to help flush out toxins.
And last, but not least, exercise. A half hour of cardio everyday and 15 minutes of yoga type stretching will make a big difference if you do it on a consistent basis.
Have you ever crash dieted before? What was your experience like?Post contributed from www.ChangeYourLifeHacks.com.

NO. EAT LIKE A PIGGY.
Honestly, I've considered it. I've slowly been changing the way I do things, whether it's by eating more salads and fruits or by squeezing in a morning swim before class. It's really been a struggle not to slip back into old habits though. The idea of crash dieting sometimes seems really appealing, even though I know that the results are almost always temporary. A part of me hopes that seeing the pounds drop off so quickly will motivate me to crack down on more of my bad habits when I'm done with the diet.
But with all the bad things I've heard about crash dieting, I think I'll just stick with the slow and steady route and hope that it pays off eventually...
lol I just started your recommended diet (except I haven't been exercising daily, but rather every other day or so.. After a couple more weeks I'll be increasing my exercise routines.
The salads are delicious. Don't you guys dare think that healthy food is awful. I'm eating my salads with two spoons full of honey mustard, two slices of ham, and some nuts and hummus.. my yogurt with nuts and berries.. and my breakfast consisting of either oatmeal with tea, or breakfast cereal... I treat myself to junk food on the weekends.. and omg Drink water. you'll get addicted after a couple days.
Take classes. I'm taking PE, walking my treadmill, doing random anaerobic moves pulled out from magazines at home.. its GREAT XDDD
I don't care if I get buff like a man.. It's better than being tubby and growing tubbier by the day. at least its muscle. (:
I try to be healthy but I always end up gaining weight. I have a LOT of muscle cause I was an athlete so I understand it weighs more but shouldn't that mean I burn it off quicker? I just want to loose 10 pounds so I'm at 125. I go to the gym at least 3 times a week, eat 2 regular meals with snacks in between, vegetarian. I'm the self proclaimed health nut! so why am I gaining more weight???
Losing weight is supposed to be a lifestyle.
You have to adopt something you can do every single day.

Ugh, I dislike posts about how crash diets don't work. Every body is different. I "crash dieted" eating 500 calories a day for a month and a half. I worked out too, and made sure I was getting adequate protein so I wouldn't lose muscle mass. I lost 15 pounds of fat and water. I know this because I weigh and measure smaller. I went down about two pants sizes depending on the brand. After I lost the weight I slowly started eating normally, and I haven't gained any back. This was in May of last year.
Bottom line, every one is different, and their bodies handle things differently.
I've found that my body is better at telling me what to eat than any diet plan. Lots of veggies, whole grain everything but pasta, and some cheese and meat for flavor. I ditched pop a long time ago and now it tastes too thick and gross for me to drink. I don't think this diet will ever get me into a size six, or even out of the plus size range. But there are more important things than whether I can squeeze into a pair of pants designed to make even Kate Moss's thighs look like sausages.
i did taebo for a half hour yesterday and it basically kicked my ass but it got my heart pumping like crazy and it felt goooood! my problem isn't food anymore... it's finding time to exercise! i just exercise whenever i have time or even motivated to exercise...
@reese_in_pieces@xanga - You're eating two meals a day--does that include breakfast? Studies show that people who eat a high-fiber, lean protein breakfast are MUCH more likely to lose weight than those who don't. Breakfast made a big difference in my own weight loss, and I really suggest trying it, even if you're not a breakfast person. Hope this helps!
well i'm in college so I wake up justtt in time for a coffee and go to my 10:25 class. I grab a little something to eat at like 11:30 when its over.... does that count as a breakfast? hahaha
heads up...if you are on any diet, and then go back to your old eating habits...you know the ones that made you gain in the first place...yeah, the weight comes back.
sure crash diets work, it's just that once you lose the weight, you go back to eating too much of the wrong thing and gain it back.
if you lose weight and don't return to weight gaining habits, the weight stays off.
the big secret to weight loss is this, and only this...if you take in fewer calories than your body burns...you lose weight.
it really IS that simple..now of course there are smarter and dumber ways to do this, but in the end it is the only way to lose weight, to burn more calories than you eat.
I've never crash dieted, before. I've seen in many other people that it just doesn't work for the long term, nor does it necessarily help you get to your actual goal weight. Even if it does, it doesn't last long.
However, the example of someone wanting to lose weight for their class reunion probably wasn't the best one to use for this post. People who don't think seriously of losing weight until they have to go to an event like this probably are not very immediately concerned with the long-term. They just want to look good for the reunion, so that they can show their former classmates how awesome they look now or how awesome they still look, or whatever. An illusion, just for appearances sake.
