Lately, I've been having to get up super early. If you know me, you know this means I do wake up early, but I also re-set my alarm for as late as I possibly can sleep, maybe open one eye to check my e-mail on my phone, and eventually roll out of bed to make coffee and trudge out the door. But the other day I thought to myself: What if I changed up my morning routine a bit?
I've always been an "afternoon gym" person. Clearly, working out in the morning is not an option for lazy ol' me. But going really late in the evening makes me stay up all night and disrupts my sleep cycle. The afternoon (when I do actually go) is the perfect time for me, and often breaks up my day quite nicely. I realize that this is not usually an option for those of you in the real world who work, so I have taken the liberty of listing a few quick little exercises you can do first thing in the morning. They will perk you up without tiring you out, and are a great way to jumpstart your day.
- Weights. I keep a set of small dumbbells hidden in an ottoman (they're hidden because I'm ashamed they're so tiny...I hope your set will be more impressive), and right after I wake up, I get them out and do a few sets of bicep curls and triceps extensions.
- Crunches. I know, there is the age-old debate on whether crunches actually do anything for your abs. But in my opinion, it's a good way to get your body moving without being too strenuous. And if you add in the bicycle movement with your legs, it becomes more active.
- Yoga. Start with deep breathing, then do the tree pose followed by a couple sun salutations, then end in child's pose to relax your body and your mind. To see these yoga poses and more, click here. You are now ready to start your day (and kick it's butt, I must say)!
Does anyone else have a morning workout routine? Anything you would like to add?

IMO, if you want to do it, you make the time to do it. I'm a morning workout person. If I have to be in at 9, I wake up at 5 to get my 1.5 hours in, plus whatever else I have to do in the morning. It doesn't tire me out, either. In fact, if I don't get my morning workout in, that's when I'm the least energized. The morning workout gets me ready to take on the rest of the day.
I run. Doesn't matter when.
I ought to try this soon.
I don't like formal workouts... That's why I'm an on-and-off exerciser. I'll go through periods of a few months when I go to the gym every day, then take a few months off. I realized that I just hate gym workouts. If I'm doing yoga, hiking, rollerblading, swimming and walking, I'm much more likely to stick to it. It's hard in the winter though.
I have a very difficult time working out at any time before 10 am. I'm sluggish and inefficient, and it wipes me out for the rest of the day. I have to workout in the early afternoon or evening for me to get the most out of it, and then, in complete contrast of a morning workout, I feel energized for the rest of the day.
i go for morning jog
i wake up around 6am to get ready for work. only on weekends and holidays will i have time to exercise.
I used to wake up around 6am to get ready and jog but I havn't done that recently. I should do my morning jog daily...I tried yoga and I must say it's a really good workout!
it is good for you to do these exercise. i am considering practicing the Yoga from March. but i am advised it is better to find a teacher in the first stage, because in many times, you can not act correctly.

it is recommended to work out in the morning because it puts you in a fat burning mode for the rest of the day.
i typically don't work out in the morning, since i have to get up at 6am for school, but i did this morning and i think i may try it a bit more frequently.
