What Are Your Work Out Songs?
I’m sure many of you can relate to this scenario (which happens to me at least once a week): First, you wake up to a blaring alarm clock in utter disbelief that it’s already time for you to get up, as it feels like you literally got in bed the night before, blinked, and woke up again. Throughout the night, you must’ve kicked the sheets down by your feet, because your upper body feels a chill, making you want to hibernate under the covers for another few hours. But you can’t—you’ve got a million and one things to do today. And the very thought of your to-do list makes you crabby. Then you remember that New Years resolution you made to stay in shape and work out in the morning, and you want to smack yourself for promising such a stupid thing in the first place. (But you can’t—your arm is too tired.) You eventually stumble out of bed, mumbling something under your breath about there not being enough hours in the day and f*#@ Jennifer Anniston for setting such high body standards to live up to. You throw on some sweats and wonder why you can’t find TWO FREAKING SOCKS THAT MATCH. You’re starving, so you go to the kitchen only to find that your roommate ate your cereal--again. By this point, you have absolutely no motivation to work out, and if you actually do manage to get your butt to the gym, you have a mediocre sweat session at best.
On mornings like this, I depend on good energizing music to get me moving. Most people would agree that one of the greatest things about music is that when going through the human experience, music can come right along with us for the journey. There are different songs, albums, artists, and genres to suit one’s every mood, from happy to heartbroken, flirtatious to furious, and everything else in between. For this reason, it seems that nowadays we have playlists for just about everything, like exercising.
When I go to the gym, almost everyone (including myself), has their ear buds in, and I always wonder what they’re listening to. Here are my top five songs from my “workout” playlist that never fail to get my heart pumping and my body moving (so much so that I often have to fight the urge to bust out dance moves on the elliptical!).
1) “I’m Every Woman” by Chaka Khan: Yes, I’m serious. This woman knew the meaning of girl power long before the Spice Girls did. And the energy and inspiring lyrics of the song pump me up, especially on a frigid winter walk to the gym.
2) “Universal Mind Control” by Common: This record, produced by The Neptunes, has a futuristic, fast-paced beat that keeps me alert when I’m working out.
3) “Fireman” by Lil Wayne: I love this older track by Weezy because the beat and lyrics are tough, which pushes me to work harder.
4) “Go Baby” by Lupe Fiasco: It feels like I have my own (very sexy) personal cheerleader in my ear when Lupe says: "Oh I’ll be on the sidelines routin’ for my dime/Holdin’ up my sign and it say/Go baby!"
5) “Steam” by Nicole Scherzinger: One of the main reasons why I exercise in the first place is so I can de-stress, and unwinding and letting go is exactly what this song is about.
How about you guys? What are your go-to workout tracks?

I put my iPod on shuffle and just go. If it's a slow song I change it, if I like it I keep it lol. Very simple.
I start off with dance music and when I increase speed, I either put on faster dance music, or fast-paced 80's metal.
Yeah, I work out (run) to Iron Maiden, got a problem with that? D<
@KrazeeKunoichi009@xanga - Iron Maiden is the shit
I find nothing beats working out to blazing fast double bass drum beats and screaming guitars. Some of my favorite workout bands are:
All Shall Perish
Metallica
Heaven Shall Burn
Nile
Behemoth
Trivium
Slayer
Iron Maiden
Dream Evil
Anything that pumps me up and gets the adrenaline flowing. Rock on.
"Best of You" by The Foo Fighters. Nothing like Dave Grohl's screaming to get me PUMPED.
@Pcgecko85@xanga - Oh hell yeah. Exactly. Double base, high energy music gives me the edge I need to sprint a mile without stopping. (And once I do, I feel like puking >> )
Nile and Dream Evil sound interesting, I'll look 'em up.
@KrazeeKunoichi009@xanga - Nile is technical death metal, so not for everyone. Dream Evil is a lot of fun. Check out the song "Book of Heavy Metal". It's a fun song.
In my opinion, nothing beats Eurythmics.
Rock songs in general. Sometimes my love/heart aching songs. And whatever is on mixpod.com.
I play a lot of electronic music when I workout, and that genre alone is vast. I love running to UMC by Common, too. :D
Haven't there already been at least 5 posts on Healthkicker asking this exact same thing?
Anything by Dragonforce or Basshunter is good.
I answered this question before but it was submitted by someone else. my answer is the same;
salt n pepa "push it" I play it on repeat. I can't get enough of that song
lady gaga songs....bad romance!
high school never ends by bowling for soup.
that song alone is all i need to listen to. it's so upbeat. hahah.
i also tend to run to the rhythm.
@Here_comes_beautiful@xanga - Same here.
I've been meaning to make a playlist, buuut I seem to never find the time, lol.
Pretty much anything by A Day to Remember, Breaking Benjamin, or Linkin Park.
"Little Sister" and "Burn the Witch" by Queens of the Stone Age.
"No Reason" by Sum 41.
"Yeah Boy and Doll Face" by Pierce the Veil.
electro, trance, then happy hardcore.
Techno music is the best workout music, especially when you get into the hardcore techno as 165-188 beats per minute, it doesn't allow you to slow down :)
She wants to move- NERD
Around the World or Storm in a teacup - Red Hot Chili Peppers
I saw her Standing There- the Beatles
:D
I find anything by Flogging Molly is good to work out to. The Irish beat is just really easy to run to.
I keep my iPod on shuffle most of the time but it has to be something upbeat or some sort of hard rock song.
Nicole Scherzinge&Rihanna's Winning Women !
"Ride to California" - Paper Tongues
"Ain't No Rest for the Wicked"- Cage the Elephant
"When Love Takes Over"- Kelly Rowland feat. David Guetta
These are my three go-to songs. I have a bunch more, too. :)
Depends on what I feel like at the time. It's usually an entire CD though, either Utada Hikaru, Arashi, or Josh Groban (the slow music actually helps because it's so inspirational I feel like I'm in a movie! :D).
ACCA DACKKA
I compile a playlist of songs where the tempo changes and set that to shuffle. I used to be a figure skater, and interval-training was very important!
No Action - Elvis Costello
Roadrunner - The Modern Lovers
Cinnamon Girl - Neil Young & Crazy Horse
I Will Dare - The Replacements
Smokestack Lightning - Howlin' Wolf
Love Comes In Spurts - Richard Hell & The Voidoids
White Riot - The Clash
