The way we combine foods can make or break a diet. This is not some mumbo jumbo food combination secret that eating two foods together causes you to burn more fat. This is a way to NOT sabotage your own weight loss by the way you combine foods. Some food combinations cause us to eat more, crave more and thus lose less.
Think about these examples. Would you ever sit down and eat three ounces of plain cream cheese? Most people wouldn't, but many people will gladly consume a big old slice of cheesecake, which contains 3 oz cream cheese. Few would sit down and eat a couple tablespoons of sugar, but in the form of cheesecake, a can of soda or a slice of birthday cake, they don't even think about it. Plain roasted peanuts are a tasty snack, but people tend to eat two or three times as much when they are salted and honey coated.
We simply wouldn't eat as much of these same foods on their own, but when we combine them they turn into diet destroying dynamite. Our brains react differently to an apple than to a slice of apple pie.
I'm sure this isn't really news to anyone, but when we are trying to lose weight it's something to keep in mind. We eat fewer chips when we eat plain chips and forgo the dip. We are satisfied with 160 calorie serving of two scrambled eggs, but when we have a three egg omelet with cheese, bacon, and grilled onions and mushrooms, we are over 500 calories and still manage to wolf down hash browns and a buttered biscuit.
We eat less when we eat plain. We crave less when we eat plain. Save the tantalizing combinations for that great meal out on Friday night, when a splurge won't hurt because you kept things in check with simpler meals during the week. This is one of the simplest and truly effective diet boosters I know.
When we combine certain foods (for many, the whammy is carbs and fat) we just can't get enough. When we keep it simple we are able to eat a more reasonable portion. This can save us hundreds of calories a day.
What is your perfect combination for a successful diet?

thank you thank you thank you!
true that. plus it's so much easier to cook too :P LOL.
I would add that snacking throughout the day as opposed to eating three hefty meals each day is also better for your metabolism and will pretty much guarantee that, even though you're not really eating more than usual, you feel hungry much less often.
take your time to savor the tasty flavors of your food so you feel full and satisfied longer, instead of rushing and eating too fast and then feeling hungry again. you can still eat your favorite foods but eat 5 small portions instead of 3 large meals and keep it within a reasonable & healthy amount of daily calories.

Thank for the tips. (:
i liked this post alot. thanks :))
This is so true. I've noticed this myself, that the more flavours I cook with or the more variety I have on my plate, the more I eat. I'm trying to keep things more simple.
This reminds me of Ratatouille.
Well said. I am very observant of how I feel after eating something so you are dead on for me. When I eat sweets I want more food, but when I eat simple I am satisfied with less. also the comparisons of cheesecake and cake are helpful i never thought of them that way before.
but sometimes eating plain takes away the boosts of being happy and satisfied in a sweet way. :(
thats why we have dessert xDI never really thought of it that way... good post!
true!
hehe thanks for the tips!
yup youre right, not only that, but most food combos are actually a bit toxic. Like when you eat fruit with anything besides other fruit, fruit digests quickly so when theres something else present it takes forever to digest and it ferments! eggs and toast takes an unbelievably long time to digest. :) its bad for your colon!

I am so guilty for craving and wanting food that contains a lot of things. Sometimes its actually a great combination though, so it doesn't hurt. Other times, extras really do add up. Dipping sauces at a fast food restaurant can sometimes be 100 calories or more each, and if I use two of those thats 200 calories on NOTHING. If it doesn't taste good plain, you probably shouldn't be eating it.
I recently noticed this when I went on my own diet. Eating natural and healthy foods gets you to eat less, while eating unhealthy foods makes you want to eat even more of the unhealthy stuff because a serving of it seems small, yet it is so densely packed with calories. Today I had a salad with very light dressing, half a pita with hummus, a small scoop of brown rice, edamame, and a slice of canteloupe for lunch and I am fully satisfied. A lot of food for not that many calories. Had I chosen to eat a main entree, I would probably have downed 500 calories for one plate and wanted more.
diets are never successful.
Thanks for the tips
