Advice: Water Makes Me THIRSTY!
This comes from our Advice column!
From thevegmeister:"I've recently drastically increased my water intake. I have several glasses with my meals and several more throughout the day and when I exercise.
I've begun to notice that between drinks, I tend to get a dry feeling in my throat like I'm thirsty, and the only thing that helps is drinking more. Which I've been doing, but the frequent bathroom trips are annoying enough. A dry throat from drinking water? What do you think this could be?"
What do you think? Does water make YOU thirsty?: "Water is making me thirsty!"

it has been scientifacly proven that the more you drink the more your body wants , its your brain saying your doing something right
It's a good thing. Your body is telling you to keep it up.
keep it up, your bladder will adjust with time to more water... just give it a few weeks and you won't taking a piss every five minutes anymore but probably be back to something a little like your earlier "pee schedule", haha.
Me too!!! I wake up in the middle of the night and my mouth feels like a desert!
Thank God for this post! I have been drinking between 2-3 liters of water a day and I keep upping it because I am soooo thirsty. I'm glad it's a good thing.
Living in the desert, I have to drink like ten glass a day to not swell. I have to pee a ton though (but it could be worse). It means you're body is taking it all in and using it and it obviously wants more of it! Just keep it up and your body will adjust.
Get checked for diabetes. Excessive thirst is a classic symptom.
Why does everyone always say excessive thirst is a sign of diabetes? It's one indicator but you need to have several of the symptoms to be diabetic. I'm also always thirsty and the more water I drink, the thirstier i feel and I'm NOT diabetic. I was just checked and normal levels (actually on the low side) yet I'm always thirsty. So thirst doesn't automatically equal diabetes.
I think it's just your body's way of saying to keep drinking. Most people are dehydrated and don't realize it.

If you have low sodium levels and you drink water you are further diluting your sodium level in turn triggering your thirst response. Excessive thirst can be caused by a number of medical conditions including but not limited to kidney disorders, liver problems, autoimmune diseases and endocrine related problems. The only thing that I can tolerate is gatorade. I hope you find the cause of your thirst problem. GB
