Does Tea Really Keep You Hydated?
I've recently become addicted to Snapple Peach Tea... even though it's not exactly the most healthiest beverage in the world (with 90 calories per serving).
However, recently I've heard on the local news that tea/iced tea actually makes you more hydrated than water. I would doubt this because tea has caffeine and sometimes sugar in it.
Do you think this is true? Does tea really provide this benefit?

Are you sure they're not talking about tea, like hot tea? Or iced tea made from seeping tea bags into ice water? :o
Hydated? You mean Hydrated? Typos in the title!
First, most teas contain caffeine, a diuretic. (Meaning much of the water you take in will be peed out soon after.) So caffeinated tea would not hydrate you more than the same amount of water, because you would loose that water.
As for other types of teas, it probably varies depending on sugar content and other ingredients. I don't see any reason that caffeine free tea would hydrate anyone more than pure drinking water, other than that people enjoy the flavor of tea more than plain old water. (Thus possibly drinking more of the tea over a longer period of time.) Unless they had higher sodium content, which helps the body retain water. It really varies depending on the tea and its ingredients.
So, overall to answer your question I would say most probably not if you compare it fluid oz. to fluid oz.
...not really..
I think it does. I know it has antioxidants and other healthy stuff that plain water doesn't. I drink A LOT of tea.
First of all... Snapple, Arizona, etc..... that is NOT TEA. Yeah, it might say "tea" on the bottle, but that stuff contains so many additives, chemicals, high fructose corn syrup... EW.
I think the news is talking about real tea... either loose leaf or in tea bags, that you steep in hot water.I think tea has more health benefits than plain water does, but you probably have to drink more tea than you would water to keep yourself suitably hydrated.
snapple and diet snapple are the worst things to be drinking if you want TEA lol
most healthiest and makes you more hydrated?
I drink a lot of different hot teas, and I don't think it makes me hydrated but feeling hydrated. Not sure how herbs work in that sense, but it tastes good and a good alternative to just plain ole water.
Just watch the sodium, that make you drink more.
certainly not. nothing can replace pure water as the ultimate hydration method.... though real tea has high antioxidant levels, the body needs water to promote a healthy system and functions. i drink about sixteen glasses a day and about three large mugs of tea. since i've been doing this, i've felt great.
@PiNkLaCe8691@xanga - this.
it makes me more thirsty.
I think it hydrates you but is not worth the extra sugar and calories.
Either way, it's good and quenches my thirst. Same with AriZona Green Tea.
