  • Disordered Eating Quiz: Not Just For Eating Disorders

I’ve written a lot about eating disorders and the people who are affected by them, but I’ve been thinking a lot lately about those “unproclaimed” eating disorders. You may not have a “definable” eating disorder, but you could very well be engaging in disordered eating.

You may not be starving yourself. You may not be gorging yourself. You may not be purging eight times a day. But you could still be considered a “disordered eater.”

I came across this quiz at Self.com that assesses your eating habits and gauges the “disorderedness” of your eating.

I definitely agree that you don’t have to have an eating disorder to eat disorderedly – I have friends who have strange food habits and rituals that are common amongst those with eating disorders (different foods can’t touch, cutting food into tiny pieces, eating things in a certain order, using excessive condiments and sauces, using faux-foods like non-fat spray butter and fat free cheese) and would have gotten them into major trouble at the ED in-patient program I attended.

One of my best friends and I joke that she is “the most eating disordered non-eating disorder person.” She’s got rituals, habits, and rules about what she eats and doesn’t eat, but she doesn’t technically have an eating disorder.

What did the Self.com quiz determine for you? Do you agree with the results?

I love sushi, writing, and yoga...and hope to someday open a yoga studio that serves sushi, and then write about it. Oh yeah, and I spent six weeks in-patient at Renfrew Center for Women with Eating Disorders for anorexia nervosa, so if you or anyone you know is struggling with/wants to know more about eating disorders, please message me! and please do not friend me if you are pro-ana or pro-mia or pro-any type of eating disorder. because that's just absurd.
