Disordered Eating Quiz: Not Just For Eating Disorders
I’ve written a lot about eating disorders and the people who are affected by them, but I’ve been thinking a lot lately about those “unproclaimed” eating disorders. You may not have a “definable” eating disorder, but you could very well be engaging in disordered eating.
You may not be starving yourself. You may not be gorging yourself. You may not be purging eight times a day. But you could still be considered a “disordered eater.”
I came across this quiz at Self.com that assesses your eating habits and gauges the “disorderedness” of your eating.
I definitely agree that you don’t have to have an eating disorder to eat disorderedly – I have friends who have strange food habits and rituals that are common amongst those with eating disorders (different foods can’t touch, cutting food into tiny pieces, eating things in a certain order, using excessive condiments and sauces, using faux-foods like non-fat spray butter and fat free cheese) and would have gotten them into major trouble at the ED in-patient program I attended.
One of my best friends and I joke that she is “the most eating disordered non-eating disorder person.” She’s got rituals, habits, and rules about what she eats and doesn’t eat, but she doesn’t technically have an eating disorder.

What did the Self.com quiz determine for you? Do you agree with the results?

I'm at high risk for disordered eating apparently. I wish it asked about pickiness. I've always though I had some weird eating disorder because of my absolute hatred of a bunch foods. The list of foods that I hate is ten times longer than the ones I like. Everyone always tells me I'm just spoiled and picky and need to try something new. Most of the stuff I don't like I've been forcing myself to eat since I was a child. I always finished my plate as I was told and now that I'm older I just don't want to do that to myself... my diet consists of mashed potatoes, pasta, and only one meal from a few fast food restaurants. Healthy foods that I enjoy eating are limited to a plain salad (just lettuce) with ranch dressing only and carrots (this makes dieting really hard but i've tried). I've tried to force myself to eat other things and sometimes it makes me ill other times I just can't get past the taste or smell. Sounds like an eating disorder to me, but its not. I'm just pathetic in the eyes of normal eaters and should suck it up and eat something even if i don't like it.
i got a 41 :/
but what's new?
49...yikes...haha even though some of it has calmed down quite a bit, apparently my eating is still screwed up.
Haha 42, why did I even bother when I knew the answer? Oh yea b/c I love taking quizzes.
I got a 5..... low risk!
They hit the nail on the head when they said I get my self-esteem from other things like work, relationships with friends & family, but I also like to look my best. Who doesn't?
I LOVE FOOD. =P
35.
22. And I'm 17. I don't think that's very good D:
I'm at a high risk, apparently >_>
27, but I think it's unfair because I have good reasons for not wanting to eat in front of people.....I'm just really messy so I don't want to spill something on myself in full view of others.
I got a 3. I'd say that's accurate. :)
37..
47
@algebraicdisco@xanga - I got 27 too!
56... yay
I already know I have bulimia.. I dont know why I took that stupid thing
I got 12
I got 10 - slight risk.
Every once in a while I try to lose weight and watch my calories, but I give up after a few days. I'm healthy, so I've finally gotten comfortable with not trying to lose weight.
Yeah it was accurate.
@XxX_starving_XxX@xanga - Yeah, I got a 56. Definitely already knew I have ednos.
I scored a 1. So, I'm at a "low risk for being eating disordered."
I agree with them.
i got a 42... i don't think it's right though.
45. which is not surprising because i know i have an ED anyway.
lol, 41. o.0 and i can agree.
22. but i don't think it's very accurate. cause i wasn't sure how to answer the questions? lol. since i've been 18, or right now? ha. yeah i've skipped meals, and fasted, but that's all behind me now.
Your score: 28, high-risk.
I scored a 56, and i'm a former bulimic/ current EDNOS
I got a 22, You are at a high risk for being a disordered eater, and thought i was in trouble, but some of you have 50 +?!?!?! wow. I know i think about food a lot, but I don't think i'm at risk of bulimia etc.
23..
