Apps Worth the Addiction
For me, nothing is better than being able to have those tips from magazines about which smoothie brand to buy when you actually need it, instead of reading it once and sitting in the grocery store thinking, "Did they recommend Odwalla or Naked?"My name is Rachael Schultz and I have a problem. I'm addicted to my iPhone apps.
I am not one of those iPhone owners who whips their phone out to Google whatever question came up in conversation or to stay on top of their e-mail. I really only use it for the apps.
Yes, Scrabble and New York Times Crosswords are my fall back when I'm waiting in line at the post office or arrive to class early, but the apps I mainly use are - big surprise - healthy living.
I whip out my iPhone at the grocery store, at restaurants, and even at the gym.
So here are my top list of healthy apps that I have discovered thus far (because if I share them with you, I'll feel like I have a reason to peruse the "Healthcare & Fitness" category on the app store for the third time this week):
The Whole Foods Market Recipes app is full of different recipes, the majority of which are very healthy.
The reason I like it is because there are different categories to choose from, like "quick and easy" and "budget." Even better, you can customize the recipes for a specific diet type, including dairy free, gluten free, and vegetarian, or even for restrictions like no fat or no sodium.
Every recipe has a picture so you can even chose what to have for dinner by which makes your mouth water more.
And to top it all off, it's free!

Sixpack App, with its oh-so-clever name, is full of different work outs.
I pull my phone out in the middle of the gym to find new workouts to do, despite my roommates taunts, because the hardest part for me about new work outs is I read them in magazines and then forget how to do them. Even if I have a magazine in front of me, I always have a million questions about whether I'm doing it write.
This app shows you pictures, explains it in words, shows you which muscles you're working out, and tells you what not to do so you know you're actually doing it right.
One more reason to put you over the edge: it's free.

Soleil Organics is perfect for people who like to buy organic but can't always afford it.It tells you what's worth it and what you could get away with buying regular.
It costs a dollar, but is worth it to me because I try to buy all my perishable food organic... but now I know that food like avocados and asparagus aren't heavily sprayed with pesticides anyway so I can save two bucks and buy them regular!
What are some of your favorite healthy apps? Do you use any apps to find health tips?
