I read
this post and I couldn't believe what I was reading. Someone who believes that if you have a donor card get in a car crash and they see that, they won't even try to keep you alive because they'll just take your organs to harvest it so they can sell it!?
SERIOUSLY???????
Here's
another post that clarifies some organ donor myths:
"Myth: If I agree to donate my organs, the hospital staff won't work as hard to save my life.
Fact: When you go to the hospital for treatment, doctors focus on saving your life — not somebody else's. You'll be seen by a doctor whose specialty most closely matches your particular emergency. The doctor in charge of your care has nothing to do with transplantation.
Myth: Maybe I won't really be dead when they sign my death certificate.
Fact: Although it's a popular topic in the tabloids, in reality, people don't start to wiggle their toes after they're declared dead. In fact, people who have agreed to organ donation are given more tests (at no charge to their families) to determine that they're truly dead than are those who haven't agreed to organ donation."
Are you aware of the truths and myths of being an organ donor? Are you an organ donor?

Thank god someone wrote this. That girl needs some serious schoolin' on the subject.
People that buy into that crap amaze me.
And yes, I am an organ donor.
Thanks. I was kind of shocked that Healthkicker actually posted that garbage.
Thanks for responding to that! Someone needed to. Yes, I'm an organ donor.
Bahahahahahaha. I didn't read it because I assumed it was PRO-organ donation (which is against my religion, so I don't care to read about it... Although I do encourage people to BECOME organ donors if being buried in tact doesn't matter to you.)
I would totally have gone there to make fun of it earlier on if I'd realized what a moron the OP was. xDI am a donor. Except I recently realized that it's likely most of my organs won't be functional enough to donate... oops...
@raspbxrrryjam@xanga - It's worse than that Lovelyish post about beautiful and mysterious women!
This is a glaring example of America's oh-so-bright future
@raspbxrrryjam@xanga - You're calling this other person a moron, and obviously they are, but you're saying it's against your religion to save someone's life with the body you aren't using anymore.
That seems even MORE moronic, to me.Yes, I'm an organ donor. And yes, I'm aware of the truths and myths about organ donation, and the controversies surrounding our methods of donation.
I'm donating my body to a vat of liquid nitrogen.
....Yeah I'm on organ donor.
I never knew people had to be educated on the what was true and false...I though, that was...common sense.XD.
I absolutely refuse to be an organ donor, because believe it or not, there are some doctors who won't wait for very long to harvest your organs. I don't trust them; therefore, my organs are staying put whenever I die.
Sad part is, if you read her post the girl was referring to a blood donor card, not the organ donor stamp on an ID.
i've heard that rumour before.. but my mom's a dialysis nurse so i've learned a lot over the years about how helpful donating your organs really are. i used to have 238761923712 bumper stickers one that said "don't take your organs to heaven, heaven knows we need them here!
so, of course, i'm an organ donor :)
@dark_sarabande@xanga - that's really sad. you could save someones life. Doctors take a very serious oath to save lives and they're not going to make anyone's life more important than yours. Why would they kill one person to save another? Makes no sense. I hope you reconsider :/
I took a philosophy class called Biomedical Ethics a couple years ago that discussed this amongst other ethical issues in the medical field.
When talking about donating organs, @thisiswhereItellyoueverything@xanga, there was a Muslim student who said that, in Islam, it's forbidden to defile the body that God has given you (although I just googled it and some people say organ donation is allowed). While I believe that people should donate organs since they won't be using them anymore after they die, I don't have the right to tell others what to do with their bodies nor would I tell them to disregard their religion and call them moronic for not doing so. I don't know what religion @raspbxrrryjam@xanga belongs to, but in her religion, she's doing the right thing.
@npr32486@xanga - She was at a blood drive, so it started out about giving blood, but she did start talking about organ donation because she overheard someone else mention it.
@thisiswhereItellyoueverything@xanga - I don't really care what an ignorant religiously intolerant person thinks of me, but thanks for sharing your useless opinion.
Next time before you make an ignorant proclamation like that, you might take 5 seconds to think about whether or not you're making a stupid and offensive comment about something you clearly don't understand and no nothing about.
People like you who think everyone different than them is wrong are exactly what's wrong in the world today.
@thisiswhereItellyoueverything@xanga - Agreed.
Yep. I am fully aware. I was told about these in Health class - when a worker from the organization actually came to class and educated us about this
@raspbxrrryjam@xanga - You called the OP a moron first. You can dish it out but you can't take it? How very religious of you! I hear hypocrisy is right up there with rising from the dead.
Wow you really have that whole hypocrisy thing down. I'm sure that everyone who can see everything we've both posted definitely agrees with you that I'M the ignorant uneducated hateful person here. Lulz.
@DncngINthedark@xanga - @thisiswhereItellyoueverything@xanga - WOW, REALLY? Good to see people are so fucking stupid they think mocking people's religion is acceptable, and apparently Dncng even thinks it should be encouraged!
I really hope none of my organs ever winds up going to assholes like the two of you!
@HoneyandSaliva@xanga - Maybe you should put that on your donor card, just in case.
@raspbxrrryjam@xanga - That is so cute how you deleted your last comment that was full of vitriol because you realized how wildly awful it made you look. Don't worry, I still have it in my email:
"LOL I can take it just fine. In fact, I never once protested to being called a moron, so there's absolutely NOTHING hypocritical about my post. ;)
Next time, why don't you try insulting people based off things that have actually been said instead of just making things up. It makes it look like you've got some sort of reading comprehension problem or like you're just not very smart.
You're ignorant, and religiously intolerant. This is proven by your continued mocking of my religion, even though you don't even know what it is.Have a nice life. I hope you marry a nice, hateful, poorly educated intolerant man like yourself, have lots of hateful intolerant poorly educated children and you all enjoy living in your world of ignorance where people who are different from you are wrong."
Sooo pleasant. WWJD?
I'm sure that's why you deleted it. I'm the one with the comprehension problem, but you can't string together some sentences with correct pronunciation? Riiight.
And I'm sure you're not hypocritical at all and refusing to donate your organs because some mysterious mythical religious being told you it's bad doesn't make you seem poorly educated, hateful (or at the very least uncaring) or ignorant. And you definitely shouldn't be embarrassed about that.
Also: I'm not refreshing the page, I get emails telling me I have a response. What are you doing? NOT refreshing the page I assume?
