Foods You Should Never Eat Again: Which One MUST You Have?
We all know how unhealthy some foods are - some of our favorite foods also rank as the worst on the planet. But what keeps us coming back for more, despite the awful nutritional information?
HuffPost ranked 5 foods you should never eat again... and I want to know which one you can't live without.
1. Fried food. This is an obvious one; the calories, the saturated fats, the toxic oils, the fried. Fried foods seem unavoidable, yet HuffPost suggests eating broiled foods instead. Broiled foods offer a similar great taste, but with much more nutritional value.
2. White bread. In the battle of Wheat vs. White, HuffPost says Wheat wins. White bread contain sugars that can quickly turn to fat, and this is bad for your waistline and health. Avoid at all costs!
3. Creamy salad dressings. Yup, you read that right. Avoid dressings like ranch, bleu cheese, french... All of your favorites, probably. Instead, try using oil and vinegar or balsamic dressings.
4. White rice. White rice can line up right next to white bread - it's loaded with... nothing. There's virtually no nutritional value in white rice and for many people, white rice ends up being a butter/soy sauce holder. Instead of white rice, HuffPost suggests trying brown rice - an option that is not only healthier, but also offered as a substitute at many restaurants these days.
5. White sugar. HuffPost is anti-white foods. White sugar, like its other fellow "Whites," contains virtually no nutritional value and thus, will severely damaged your waistline (and can be tricky for those trying to manage sugar levels - duh!). Instead of white sugar, HuffPost suggests trying fruit when you're in need of a energy boost. Fruit contains tons of natural, not-bad-for-you sugars, as well as tons of vitamins and nutrients!
So tell me, fellow Healthkickers... Of all of the foods to avoid, which one can't you live without?

I'm pretty sure I'll be okay if I eat in moderation x]
Euhhh. I hate brown rice. I'll take the white rice haha
the problem is that the ONLY way i like rice is the sticky, Chinese-restaurant kind. can you do that with brown rice?
i'll have to go with fried foods. cheese sticks FTW.
probably the sugar.. it's practically everywhere..
Fried foods aren't inherently bad
I can't live w/o fried food. The other stuff for the most part I avoid.
@too_pretty_to_die@xanga - Not really. I hate brown rice because no matter what you do with it, it always has that whole-grain taste to it.
Sugar. It's the only one that really has no easy substitute. Fruit just doesn't cut it when you're craving cake.
I can't live without fried food. Gotta have it once in a while. White bread and white rice I can do without but it's rare that I eat it because the house is stocked with brown bread and brown rice. The white stuff is mostly when I go out to eat and there is no other option.
I agree about avoiding refined white bread, white rice, and white sugar. But I don't think brown bread, brown rice, or brown sugar are any better. My body doesn't seem to like any kind of bread or rice.

I absolutely love fried foods, so I am going to pick that one... French fries, anyone? Unless you count anything already made with white sugar to be part of giving up white sugar... then white sugar would be the hardest because it's used in everything! I am not going to deny myself sweet treats and other foods just because white sugar was used as an ingredient. But if I were to give up white sugar as a choice of sweetener, I can live with that.
It would also be hard for me to give up white rice, since it's a part of the culture I grew up with. White bread is iffy... I can easily give up sliced white bread. But what about baguettes and ciabatta and brioche? Anyone making whole wheat versions of those? Even if they did, it wouldn't taste the same.
Creamy salad dressings would be my easiest.
I MUST HAVE COFFEE BECAUSE i love goat poops.
Oils only become toxic if you fry above the smoke point. Invest in a candy thermometer and research what the smoke point is for the oil you're using.
I don't do white bread or creamy salad dressings (red wine vinaigrette ftw!).
Everything else though, I'm eating it. Jasmine rice is the only rice I like to eat plain. If it's anything else it has to be dirtied or chickened or souped or (white) sugared or something.
Probably fried foods or sugar are my favorites.
@LightBlue21@xanga - damn. yeah it took me forever to get used to whole grain pasta. unfortunately, the way i cope is by using extra sauce :(
Sadly it'd be sugar :(
I live without all five of those and do okay by substituting. Using a cooking spray, or like one of the above commenters mentioned, using olive or canola oil at a lower heat to pan fry foods is perfectly fine, as long as it's not getting to the burn point.
If I had to choose one, I'd say fried foods, but I don't eat deep-fried anyway, if that's what you were referring to...
But good article, I think I'll try broiling more now!

White bread. I like honey wheat and whole grain breads, but I cannot have PB&J on anything but white. I could switch to raw sugar and brown rice though, no big deal. Creamy dressings...hm. I need ranch if I am having a veggie platter, but not for my salads. As for the fried foods, probably not never again but I can do without for the most part. Fried chicken is a nice "once in a blue moon" nom.
I've been trying to cut out most of those foods lately. Fried foods and the white bread only become a problem for me when I eat out. It's so hard for me to turn down french fries, and rarely is there wheat bread.
I've been doing fairly well lately though. Eating my wheat bread and my healthy smoothies. Hopefully I can keep it up. I eat one small sweet a day or so, though, so white sugar is a little hard to avoid entirely considering almost everything has it.
Probably white rice, just because it's more convenient to find in premixed packages at the store. And ranch, gotta have ranch while eating pizza. But then again, both of these things are like once, maybe twice a month occasions. So I think I'm good.
I don't believe white rice has "virtually no nutritional value". http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/cereal-grains-and-pasta/5722/2
I'm Korean, so giving up white rice isn't happening. However, I have cut down recently. I don't really eat too much of the other stuff any more. Also, be aware that a lot of the non-creamy dressings are high in sodium content, as well.
@nihaokeisha@xanga - Exactly. These foods are only bad for you if you eat them all the time.
I can't live without a LITTLE BIT of sugar!!!
