Ladies: What Do YOU Do When You Have Your Period?
Today I'm feeling lazy, unmotivated, tired, and hungry. I want to eat.
I just wanted to sit on the couch and be fat and lazy and eeeeeeat. Luckily my fiance and I are on this health kick, so there's nothing binge worthy available (unless I wanted to binge on swiss chard...just sayin'). Now after spin class I'm tired, sore, and STILL want to be lazy.
I couldn't figure out why I'm feeling so friggin' sluggish, and then I realized, "Oh crap. My period started today."
Knowing the reason why doesn't make the sluggishness go away, but it does give me more determination to push through it.
If you're like me, that time of month is a week of weakness (hah! A pun!). How do you not give into that desire to be a lazy bum? To be quite honest, some times it's not so bad to use menstruation as an excuse to slow down and become more introverted. Cultures all over the world do this very thing.
No, this doesn't mean it's okay to stuff our faces full of chocolate in the name of expelling cramps. But it does mean it's okay to pamper yourself.
I'm using this week as an excuse to give myself an at home chemical peel. I'm using the Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel from Dr. Dennis Gross Skin Care. It's easy, it's more gentle than what you'd expect, especially given what it does for your skin. I have 10 day pack, which I forgot was lying around, and now I'm going to use it waaaay more often. It's a miracle product.
After the peel, I follow up with a moisturizing mask. The mask I used is being discontinued (it's a small time skin care line that is no longer able to find a supplier), but I recommend finding a mask that is similarly hydrating. The big thing in masks now are ones that come on a sheet and are placed over your face (they have cut outs for eyes, nose, and mouth).
My mask is supposed to be used three times a week for best results, something I've been seriously slacking in, but no longer! This whole week I plan on slathering this honey-oat concoction on my face with pride! Maybe I should refer to that time of the month as "spa week" from now on?
What are your ideas for getting through that time of the month?

I wear a tampon and suck it up.
It's funny because i eat less...i don't have much motivation to eat because i feel bloated but i don't feel any pains at all..never had experienced cramps before also, i had mine when i was 19
I just had my first in over 9 months a few weeks ago, (had a baby) and wanted to die! OH my poor husband, I was so crampy, and cranky, and my boobs hurt on top of breastfeeding. I broke out like a 16 year old and continue to get little pimples, even the baby broke out a little from all the hormones! I just kinda hid in the bedroom with her and slept a lot. Everytime my husband came in he crept around like i was a sleeping dragon, if he had bothered me i probably would have bitten his head off tho. Before my baby they were usually fine, seems like every 3rd one really sucks.
My libido skyrockets during my period. Fortunately, my boyfriend helps me through that. I also start craving sweet things... which I can usually solve by snacking on apples.
My periods usually last 3 days. They arrive, then taper off. I had amenorrhea for, like, a year and a half, and they never came back like the 7 days they once were. I hope down there's okay.
I usually get away with maybe one day of super tampons, one day normal, and then a liner on the third day.
I still get dangerously emotional before them, though. And I NEVER realize why until I get my period, and then I'm like, "Oh...DUH! You'd think I'd know by now." I take Advil.
@Nataly Loveless@facebook - And I haven't found a single source that isn't "Vegan" to support your position.
So until you trot out some SERIOUS credentials...our opinions have the same weight. I too take "bad advice" given as fact seriously.
And so sorry...but the human system was not designed to conform to a life style choice.
Ugh! mine started today. I'll tell you a secret though. If your period is regular and you know when it's coming, cut down significantly on meats, dairy, processed foods and caffeine at least 3 days before it's supposed to arrive, and it will help tremendously with the fatigue , bloating and pains. Or do a fruit-and-veggie fast. This doesn't take all the symptoms away but it diminishes them considerably.
Anyway, if I'm feeling particularly awful I don't do anything special. Chocolate and a movie, probably. I have to make sure I don't forget to get dressed on those days as well (I work at home) because being in pajamas always exacerbates the sluggishness.

@Nataly Loveless@facebook - I definitely agree with you. Dairy is harmful. Even if we could efficiently absorb the calcium in milk, which we can't, there is quite enough calcium in plant foods for our dietary needs.

I avoid caffeine the week before my period and load up on pain meds.
How do you not give into that desire to be a lazy bum? I'm an adult with bills :) kind of have to not be a lazy bum. What are your ideas for getting through that time of the month? I get the cramps in my back so it is pretty uncomfortable no matter what I try, but I usually go crazy on Advil and Ibuprofen. I don't change my face washing schedule (everyday I soap and water wash it in the morning, and when before I go to bed). Zit's happen no matter what I try. Food wise, I try to stay on a fruit/ veggie and cracker diet with plenty of water. Eating the crappy foods that I eat on a daily 'broke budget' basis turns my stomach. I usually only last 3-4 days at most, so it usually isn't too bad of an ordeal for me.
I go lay on my stomach, with a pillow under my hips, and stay in that position all day. Glaring at anyone that talks. OR if my mood swings to happy... I prance around.
I just get on with life as normal because I can't really afford to lose an entire week of pay.
Throwing up? Aim for the bathroom. Cramps? Incredibly high pain tolerance, I just ignore it. Cravings? Probably just bored, drink some water or fruit juice or something. Bad mood? World of Warcraft, PvP, release anger at computer screen. Irritable? I'm like that every day of the month, no change there.
I don't ever really get the desire to be lazy. I'd get bored incredibly fast.
I haven't had one in four years since I had the Mirena IUC implanted. Weirdly enough, though, I still get all the PMS. So I just sit around with a big bag of Reese's cups and play World of Warcraft for the whole week.
Kinda weird...sometimes I get really awful cramps and end up in the bathroom crouched over in pain, but most of the time I don't even sense my period coming. There's pretty much no difference between being in my cycle and being out of it.
I don't really get bad cramps or bleed a lot anymore, and my hormones aren't tooo out of whack. I do feel gross though. Between the bleeding and the fact that my period messes up my bowels and I end up kinda gassy, I just want to constantly shower and clean that general area constantly.
i am extremely pissy and rely too much on alcohol to relieve the pain.
but i guess thats everyday...
I sleep as much as I can.
Ever since I started taking birth control pills, my period has been a breeze. Before, all I could do was sit on the couch with a heating pad, feeling sorry for myself for about a week. So I basically now I do whatever I would do normally.
