It's a rainy, dank NYC morning and my alarm is going off at 5am. I could press snooze...
Am I in the mood to climb out of my cozy bed? Definitely not... my blankets are so cozy!
I watch myself drift into a lazy attitude, a "fatitude."
Am I going to let a mood come between me and my commitment to exercise? Not a chance.
How will I feel after my workout?
I peel myself out of bed because reality sets in.
I remind myself that exercise gives me the boost I need to have an energized, positive mindset. I always feel better after some heart-pumping exercise. I have never finished a workout thinking "I really regret that workout." My mood is always sunnier after a good workout.
What I know for sure is that a good mood is only a workout away.
I plan my weekly workouts on Sundays and I show up for them because I love the positive energy exercise creates in my life. The workout makes me feel inspired - NOT the other way around. If you rely on your feelings to get you to the gym, you are destined to stay on the couch.
Do you want to be lumpy and grumpy or lean and luxurious?
Make a decision, commit to a program and never let a mood stand in your way.
This is the secret of the consistently fit:we don't depend on a positive mood as a prerequisite to exercise.
If you're "too tired" or "too stressed" to exercise, entertain the notion that some exercise is exactly what you need to energize and de-stress you. Your body is an incredible source of joy and vitality.
Next time you feel lackluster, try some exercise and watch your spirits rise.
