My Whole Mouth Hurts Like...

...Like I swished boiling water in it last night and now have burns all over the inside my mouth!Yesterday I went shopping and one of the things I needed was a new bottle of mouthwash. I got this stuff called Listerine Total Care Plus Whitening, and it supposedly does pretty much everything a mouthwash can do all at once. I used it for the first time last night and OWWWW it hurts like *~!@!#
I went to Amazon to read reviews for the product, and as it turns out, the Listerine has only a three star rating. I went through them, and all of the bad reviews were due to the horrible burning it causes, but the people who dealt with the product and used it anyway all said that it worked wonderfully. Even some of the negative reviews said that it worked but it was just too painful for them to take, and I will vouch for it, ah ha. It's by far the most painful mouth wash I have ever used, it is the next day and my mouth is incredibly sore from it!
Anyway, I was reading the information on the back of the bottle and it said somewhere on there to expect to see whitening results in 12 weeks. Wow, what a long time right? But I decided to make it into a challenge for myself since that is such a long time and the mouthwash is extremely hard to use. I took a picture of my teeth last night, and in 12 weeks I'm going to take another for comparison (that will be on April 4th).
The mouthwash calls to be used twice a day for results to occur, so I have to use it again this morning. I don't know how I'll survive day two, but I suppose I have to.
What kind of mouthwash do you use? Do any of you use Listerine Total Care Plus Whitening?

I don't quite know what people expect...it's got alcohol in it. Does it not burn when you do shots of liquor? I hope it whitens your teeth though, I'd hate for you to have spent money on something that doesn't work as it says it will...
It works. I've used it. After a while your mouth grows use to it as well.
I use colgate or creast mouth wash I hate listerene no matter what kind listerence it is it burns like hell and my stepdad uses it all the time its gross hope ya mouth is well:)
I usually go for mouthwash that's alcohol free.
If your mouth is hurting that much from a mouthwash, It's probably time to see a dentist.
ok for a moment there I thought you had actually swished boiling water in your mouth.... had to go back and re-read.
IMO, if it causes you that much pain you should not be using it. Its called common sense.
I use either Scope mouth wash (the blue one) or Thoms of Maine..
My face was kinda like this throughout the entire post.
everyone i know uses this brand. it burns like hell but works pretty well. i kinda cheat and spit it out a little earlier or rinse my toothbrush and brush my teeth with it on top. i've heard that the coloured ones can stain your teeth so brush after to prevent that and don't eat for 20/30 minutes ish.
or you can always just try a different anti bacterial mouth wash, buy whitening toothpastes or use an at home mouth bleach package like crests (after checking with your dentist).

That said, I don't brush my teeth with commercial toothpaste nor do I use commercial mouthwash. I'm fully convinced they're actually designed to rot your teeth, not help them. The same reason I haven't seen a dentist in nearly 15 years and have no intentions of doing so ever again.
It's all about the money, honey. Just like mainstream doctors and the pharmaceutical industry, so is the field of dentistry about money and nothing else.
I've never liked Listerine because I can't take the burn, although I don't think I've ever had pain the NEXT day. I did try Crest night time rinse once (after using regular crest rinse for a while with no problems) and it numbed my tastebuds or something (my breakfast tasted funny the next morning). After a few days of this I decided it was clearly doing something wonky to my mouth and I didn't want to push it. Now I use ACT, which is still alcohol based, but has less than listerine so it doesn't burn as bad.
Basically, my advice would be to ditch the listerine and find another mouthwash that works for you. As for whitening, you're probably better off with a whitening toothpaste (which contains abrasives to polish away the stains) or whitening strips (which to the best of my understanding, bleach the stains).
Mouth wash always burns my mouth so I always dilute it with some water
Crest Pro Health is probably the best I've ever used.
Listerine gives me mouth sores. I've used that total care and it pretty much blistered my tongue. I will never use Listerine again. =\ I use Crest Pro-Health or something, it works much better :) No mouth pain!
Why not shell out 34.00 for Crest Whitening Strips Advanced and get a professional looking smile pain-free? May be a bit pricey but it's worth it and works awesome.
@HerCarelessWhispers@xanga - How long have you been using it? I used it for about 3 weeks and had nasty, gunky brown stains in-between all my teeth from it. They took months to go away, and I still have one that just won't disappear. I wouldn't recommend continuing if you've been using it short-term. Just figured I'd warn you.

I've been using it for about 2 years and that's never happened to me. My dentist recommended it to me.
I'm sorry that happened to you!I can't handle the burn of listerine. I suggest if you are having a hard time, switch to Crest Pro-health mouthwash. It doesn't burn.
I've used Listerine before, and although it's never burned my mouth, it has dried my mouth out before, and I always have to rinse again with water, so it's not so dry.
I use Melaluca brand mouthwash. Natural, and has tea tree in it. Love it and so does my mouth and my dentist
@Lost__In_My_Mind@xanga - When I looked at the picture you linked, I realized my face as frozen in the same pose, too. From reading this. HAHA.
@sarahsmurfette@xanga - Lol! =]
oh boy. 12 days of your mouth hurting? good luck. maybe you should dilute it wit some water. maybe that'll helps.
