  • Fried Friday: Super Bowl Sunday Edition!

One of the most dreaded weekends for health enthusiasts is coming up. Not Thanksgiving or Christmas... but Super Bowl Sunday. It's the second largest calorie consumption day (first is Thanksgiving). This becomes an issue for even non-football fans. So many of us are invited to parties and gather around the TV, even if it's just for the commercials. Super Bowl parties consist of fan favorites: wings, chips, salsa, dip, mini hot dogs and pizza. Oh, and a lot of alcohol.

Some wing sauces contain saturated fat... the pizza is usually greasy... chips contain fat and are salty... and alcohol is high in calories because of its high sugar content. Beer, especially, makes you bloated.

I know for me, Super Bowl Sunday is my guilty pleasure. Yes, I'll have the celery sticks that no one else touches, but that's usually after a few wings and a lot of tortilla chips.

If I were hosting the event, I would probably substitute the chips to whole grain and make the "less fat" version of the finger foods. I could even make my own platter of something healthy and bring it to the party I'm attending; there are so many options. I could also exhibit self control and stop eating when I'm hungry.

In the past, I haven't done any of these things. Maybe this year is my year that I make Super Bowl Sunday healthy, or at least healthier.

What are your guilty holidays? Do you have a healthy Super Bowl Sunday? What's your favorite Super Bowl Sunday indulgence?
