    I'm not a parent, but I know plenty of moms and dads, and I've seen how hard it can be to provide quick, healthy meals for children. Children are picky eaters to begin with, but throw a few vegetables on their plate and they're almost immediately turned off.

    Well, RealAge.com has come up with a short list of healthy, fast-food bites that your kids will love. Let's say these meals are "kid tested, mother approved."

  • Sweet Potato & Edamame Quinoa Salad

    Sweet potatoes in rice?! That's so starchy! Calorie-counters beware. But I will swap the rice with quinoa, then tell you sweet potato is a nutrition powerhouse. Would you care for some? 

    The trick is to ratio both "carbs" - sweet potatoes and quinoa such that the total is the same. Get me? And this one is made with nori seaweed, edamame, and sweet potatoes.More Here...

  • How Do I Increase My Chances of Conceiving?

    So I am entering the ovulation period! Woo hee. Since last month has been crazy I bought some FertiliTea to help me regulate my cycle. I don't want another 56 day cycle, and sitting there asking yourself what if? I also read somewhere that probiotics, the one I have been taking Ultimate Flora women's care probiotic, helps regulate vaginal pH which is essential in achieving pregnancy. Many times the environment will be too acidic and the man's sperm have no chance of surviving. Also never forget those prenatal vitamins.   • Another Reason to Love Obama: Free Birth Control

    I couldn't be more excited about this new development from the Obama Administration.

    Starting on August 1st, employers will be "required to cover contraception in their health plans, along with other preventive services, with no cost-sharing such as co-pays or deductibles. This means that after years of trying to get birth control covered to the same extent that health plans cover Viagra, our country will finally have nearly universal coverage of contraception."

    This is a huge step in our country. This will not only help to protect women's rights, but it is also a step towards making men and women equal in the eyes of the government.

  • Facts for the Girl Scout Cookie-a-holics Out There

    I was a Girl Scout growing up; my sister was too, and even went on to work for the organization for several years. We're big fans of the GS fundamentals, the lessons they teach young girls, and all of the charitable work that they do.

    We're also *big* fans of Girl Scout cookies.

    Thin Mints, Samoas, Do-Si-Dos, Tagalongs... You name it, we've eaten it. I've come up with interesting ways to eat them (crushed and as a sundae topping, for example), and have even given these treats as gifts.

  • Scared of Stroke? Eat More Veggies


    Reuters Health said that a research on studies spanning 45 years revealed that there is a decrease in stroke incidence among people on a magnesium-rich diet.

    Quoting the article: "For every extra 100 milligrams of magnesium a person ate per day, their risk of an ischemic stroke -- the most common kind, typically caused by a blood clot -- fell by nine percent.... The U.S. recommends men and women over age 31 eat 420 and 320 mg/d of magnesium, respectively."

    The researchers, however, admitted that they could not ascertain whether there are other factors that influenced the result of the studies that they evaluated. But doctors and dieticians agree that a diet low on sodium and high on potassium and magnesium is highly recommended. More Here...
