  • My Weight GAIN Journey

Yes you read that right. I am trying to GAIN weight.

Last July I got sick, so sick they expected me to die (an incredibly severe case of pneumonia) I had been losing weight consistently for months before hand but having no bathroom scale I didn't know how much until they weighed me at the hospital. I was down to 108 pounds; needless to say, my mom and I were shocked.

See I have never been skinny, women in my family tended to be overweight and I was no exception. More Here...

  • 5 Great (But Tricky) Ab Workouts

Now that swimsuit season is in full effect, women everywhere are working hard to look tip-top. I, for instance, am always looking for the latest and greatest workouts to help keep my abs under control.

Well, Fitness Magazine has introduced their Top 10 Ab Exercises that you can do just about anywhere. I have tried out 5 of these exercises just to give readers an inside look -- starting with the Abdominal Hold. This one I found pretty intense – especially in my arms. To do this workout you sit in a chair lift your feet 2-4 inches off the floor and then hold yourself off the chair. Verdict: if you don’t have arm strength, this may be pretty tricky. More Here...

  • Not-On-a-Diet Rules

I have certain eating weaknesses. These weaknesses are my only unhealthy habits. I exercise regularly (now), and I do not consume things which are toxic.

When I am actively dieting (which is something I do only to achieve a healthy weight), I am able to control my weight. Otherwise, my weaknesses control me. In order to take control of my health and keep my weaknesses in-check, I have established some not-dieting dietary rules. More Here...
  • Eating Healthy to Stay Healthy

You probably already know that a healthy diet lowers your risk for heart disease, diabetes and many kinds of cancer, such as breast and prostate cancers.

Science has made it possible to survive different types of cancer, and treatments like chemotherapy and proton radiation therapy, like the treatment provided at IU Health Proton Therapy are growing and becoming more effective. But eating healthy is a step in the right direction towards avoiding the disease. More Here...

  • Summer is Almost Here! Need to Drop a Few?

If you live in NYC like me, then you know there is no true sign of summer coming - except for the reliability of nature still taking its due course. It's freezing one day, raining the next and then hot as...well summer. But no matter what, bikini season will be here soon and I don't know about you but I am not ready! (Although I never really am...) I've decided to kick my healthy habits up a notch, especially because I'm going to Miami in a month!

First, I would like to explain, I am not at all a believer of diet fads or severely restricting calories to lose weight quickly. More Here...

  • Don't Work Out with Your Boy/Girlfriend

Couples who work out together are possibly the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. I have these points to prove it:

    1)    Identical desire to workout plus identical free time: There is no way your lives are that compatible, unless you have no friends except for each other. Also if you think going on a jog is a 'cute date' then it's time to revisit traditional courting rituals.  Going out for dinner is not that uncool.

    2)    8 A.M. exercise on a Saturday morning: The weekends are called weekends for a reason. Saturday morning is the perfect excuse, if one was ever needed, for a lie in. Why are you running when you could be having sex instead? Sex burns 150 calories an hour if you get into it. More Here...

  • Pillorying Paula & Blaming Butter

When I saw the featured post on Healthkicker that was nothing but a hate-filled rant about Paula Deen, riddled with fallacies, vitriol and obvious resentment that somebody in America got rich doing what they're good at and what they love. I'm getting pretty sick of everybody slamming Paula Deen. I've never actually watched her shows or read her cookbooks, but I do own her knife set which probably gives me more of a personal connection with her than any of the authors of the poorly written rants that have proliferated on the blogosphere since Ms. Deen's announcement that she has diabetes.

Let's just think about the assertion that somebody "deserves" diabetes. More Here...
  • Time Magazine Sheds Light on Extended Breastfeeding

“You’re STILL doing that? Isn’t she old enough to stop that? If she can ask for it, then she’s too old!” Yep, I’ve heard them all. My daughter is 13 months old so that means I have crossed the line into, no-mans land, a.k.a. Extended Breastfeeding.

I didn’t plan to breast feed past one year, shoot, I didn’t even know if I’d make it to six months! I’m not a co-sleeping, granola-crunching, attachment parent that people would expect to do something so “audacious” like breastfeed my toddler. I’m just a mom that wants to give my child the best of me.

Breastfeeding didn’t come easy for us. My milk took nine days to come in and my daughter didn’t latch on for nearly two weeks. It took lots of tears, persistence, and hours with Dr. Google to make it through those rough first months of nursing, but we made it. I fought so hard to give my baby the best food in the world, so why the hell would I stop giving to her because of what some ignorant people might say?
