"Baking" meant raiding Mom’s pantry and dumping everything within reach into a bowl. Raisins, nuts, vinegar, flour, icing sugar, food coloring... There was no final dish in mind, just some frenzied sort of let’s-see-what-will-happen culinary experiment. If it looked interesting, we threw it onto the heap. Then stirred. More Here...

8 Natural Alternatives for Joint Pain

There are tons of drugs developed by the pharmacy production companies to relieve arthritis pain as every fifth American is diagnosed with arthritis. Aggressive treatment can help more sufferers go into remission. However prescription drugs don't help to a lot of patients. Moreover, some drugs suppress the immune system, which makes patients more susceptible to infections. Side effects from other arthritis medications can include skin irritation and sensitivity, stomach upset, weight gain, eye problems and more.

If you hope to side-step these unpleasant effects or prefer to choose not an aggressive treatment, there are natural alternatives for joint pain. More Here...

Fruit Salad with Citrus Vanilla Sauce

This is a guest post from For the Love of Cooking.

I served this fruit salad with the spicy Asian Chicken Sandwiches I made for dinner recently and they paired nicely together. The sweet and juicy fruit salad cooled down our mouths after bites of the spicy sandwich. I loved this combination of fruit together. The sauce was a combination of orange and lemon juice & zest along with some brown sugar and vanilla. It reduced down to a very flavorful sauce that topped the fruit perfectly. We all, kids especially, loved this fruit salad. More Here...

Fried Friday & How I Gained 5 Pounds: Browned Butter Rice Krispie Treats

I have a confession. Last weekend I ate a lot of rice krispies treats. And by a lot, I mean an entire pan. To myself. I don't regret it one bit. My pants may be a tad bit snugger, but it was worth every bite. I've seen them rejoice in their accomplishments and relax because their journeys have concluded. I taste the jealously of my heart with every passing mile marker, I feel the sense of urgency in my soul to continue on this road although I feel so alone. Every day I'm thinking of how to go faster without losing my grip, how to get there quicker; seems as though I'll literally never get there, but that won't stop me from giving it me all.

It seems when it comes to anything worth having and holding on too, that it takes an arm and a leg to get it. This goes for so many things in life, but for fitness especially. More Here...

Calorie Smackdown: Subway vs. McDonald's

It's around lunch time which means you're probably considering what to eat. Many people opt for Subway because it's a healthier option to fast food joints, but according to a new UCLA study, that may not be the case!

Scientists at UCLA crunched numbers to find that the calorie intake between a meal at Subway and a meal at McDonalds is not different enough to warrant the healthy image of Subway and the notoriously unhealthy image of McDonalds. More Here...

Today Is Apraxia Awareness Day

My oldest child has speech apraxia. I don't remember exactly when he was diagnosed, but we've been in therapy for almost 7 years. We've worked along side his speech therapist to help him form new sounds and then to practice that new sound over and over and over. Repetition is key for him. Repetition to the point that the words and sounds don't even sound real words and sounds. He's gotten better at pronouncing the harder sounds. So much so that the need for me to translate to others has diminished. It's bitter sweet.
More Here...

The Health Benefits of English-Style Bell Ringing

I've been a bell ringer for over 10 years.
