  • Gardening Improves Mental and Physical Health

Have you dreamed the impossible dream of starting your own garden of fresh vegetables and herbs. I dream of that every single day. I want to be able to walk outside, bend down, and pick a fresh tomato out of my garden.

Cultivating your own vegetables isn't only a way to ensure ultimate freshness by cutting out the middle man, called the grocery store. You can't completely eliminate the store because the seasons, climates, and you can't possibly grow every vegetable and herb you need. Plus, I love grocery shopping. Surprisingly, gardening improves your mental health as well. More Here...

  • Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Generally, when people think of team sports, they will think of typical sports such as baseball, basketball or football. Most people are surprised when I inform them that rock climbing is a team sport as well. It is a team sport that requires its participants to pay the utmost attention to the moves of the partner, otherwise both practitioners could suffer from great injury.

I hear gripes from people that they will abscond from participating in sports or other physical programs because they feel like an outsider to the sport and are too timid to reach out to others. I would suggest rock climbing to someone as a healthy activity to pursue, because it can be a singular activity as much as it is a way to meet like-minded people. More Here...

  • Water Aerobics and... Gym Segregation?

The weight section in gyms have been synonymously known as the men's section, group classes have been known as women's classes and water aerobics have been stamped as a class for the elderly. These different areas of fitness are NOT only for a certain sub group, they anyone's level of fitness. These misconceptions have been holding a lot of gym goers back. It is time to break down these gym barriers, personal intimidation and reach your full potential. Besides, who doesn't want to get in better shape? More Here...

  • Need Motivation to Work Out? Find a Race!

Now that it's getting warmer, and classes are winding down, I've been seriously trying to work out consistently!

Today marks the third week of my "get fit" plan. I'm hoping to run a half-marathon by the end of the summer. There are many walks, 5ks, and charity runs that will be going on that I'll be participating in to prepare. More Here...

  • Euthanasia vs. Religion: What Do You Think?

This can be a touchy subject to discuss on a blogging site, but I want to find out what other people think about euthanasia.

I agree with euthanasia because I'm against human suffering. I agree with this only when it is deemed necessary so before you start calling me murderer, hear me out on my reasons of agreeing with this practice.

  • Alternative Cardio: Skateboarding is No Longer a Crime

I see many many items marketed to Americans with the intention of aiding their weight loss. From ellipticals to home gyms, it seems that if you have the cash, an easy solution to cardiovascular problems is only a phone order away. In an age where more than half of the nation is obese, I cannot help but feel sad for the culture that has allowed for this issue to become so prominent.

But there is a solution for those who are willing to sustain a few bumps, bruises and scrapes. (Maybe a broken bone or two as well.) More Here...

  • Don't Be Afraid to Have a Better Life

One of the scariest moments in a person's life was the first day of school as a child. Some get accustomed quicker than others. The same is true for someone beginning to exercise in a gym. Unlike starting school as a child, if someone is too intimidated by the gym they can easily quit. This all comes from exercise being viewed as an unpleasant task more than a necessity. Going to the gym, running outside or even exercising at home should not be looked at as a chore, it should be an activity that is looked forward to. More Here...

  • Raising Healthy Kids in an Unhealthy World

How do we keep our kids healthy in a society where 12.5 million of our youth is obese? There are fast food restaurants on every corner and our lives our so hectic we usually don’t get home in time to prepare a healthy meal.  Not to mention that it is just easier and cheaper to get fast food or stock our pantry with canned food, and our freezer with frozen foods.  We spend so much time in the car going from one activity to another that it seems we can’t even find the time for physical activity.

My son started to have weight issues around the age of 4, and I realized that we had to change our lifestyle or he was going to have a really hard time. He always had feeding issues so I became used to giving him easy to eat processed foods.  It soon was the only thing he would eat.  I became complacent.  I didn’t want to hear him throw tantrums so I gave in.  It hit me one day that I actually allowed my toddler to dictate what he was he was going to eat.  He has no knowledge of what is healthy for him, so why in the world did I let him control his diet.  Needless to say, I woke up fast.
